Peer Tutoring: What Is It & What to Expect

Peer Tutoring is a one-on-one session with a fellow student who has successfully complete the course and is trained to help you succeed. Peer tutors can help you:

Understand course content and key concepts
Work through homework and practice problems
Prepare for quizzes, exams, papers, and presentations
Break down difficult topics into manageable pieces
Explore different ways of learning and studying

During the session, you can expect:

A relaxed and judgement free learning environment
Conversations focused on what you need help with
Plenty of opportunities to ask questions
Collaborative problem-solving and skill-building
To leave with a better understanding of the material, greater confidence, and a plan for your next steps

Remember to bring any relevant notes, questions, assignments, textbooks, or study materials, so you can get the most out of your session.

Academic Success Coaching: What Is It & What to Expect

Academic Success Coaching is a one-on-one session with a fellow student who can help you develop the skills and habits needed to thrive in college. Academic Success Coach can work with you to:

Find study strategies that fit your learning style
Manage your time with homework planners, productivity tools, and finals week checklists
Stay organized with classes, assignments, and responsibilities
Set realistic academic and personal goals
Build accountability and stay on track throughout the semester
Develop productive habits that support your long-term success

During a session, you can expect:

A welcoming, judgement-free space to talk about your academic goals and challenges
Support with planning, prioritizing, and staying organized
Encouragement, accountability, and practical problem-solving
A clear action plan with realistic next steps you can start using right away

Tutoring Support for Graduate Students

Graduate students have access to tutoring support in select areas, including mathematics, writing (research and composition), and some science courses, depending on content and tutor availability. Please note that we do not employ tutors for graduate-level courses specific to individual degree programs.

Graduate students seeking assistance are encouraged to the Office of Academic Success to discuss available resources, or to speak with their instructor or academic department about course-specific support options.
