Across the Isles: From London to Dublin

Faculty-Led Study Abroad in London, Galway, & Dublin

Explore the history, culture, literature, art, and justice systems of the United Kingdom and Ireland on this exciting faculty-led study abroad experience. Traveling to London, England and Galway and Dublin, Ireland, students will engage in immersive learning through cultural experiences, historic sites, museums, and academic activities. 

Open to students from all majors, this interdisciplinary program is led by faculty in the Art, English, and Justice Studies departments for course credit.

Return: May 24th, 2027

Students may choose from a variety of course options, including: 

  • Art: ART 310: Art Seminar, ART 389: Cross Cultural Studies Art
  • English: ENG 399: Intermediate Creative Writing Poetry, ENG 436: World Literature, ENG 446: Cross Cultural Studies Literature
  • Justice Studies: CJ 436: Comparative Criminal Justice, CJ 446: Cross Cultural Studies Justice Studies, LS 438 Topics in Law
  • 1-Credit Study Abroad Options 
  • Essential Studies Course Options

While traveling through London, Galway, and Dublin, all participants will enjoy a variety of shared cultural experiences, historic landmarks, and group excursions. Throughout the program, students will also participate in faculty-led activities tailored to their academic interests.

The estimated cost for this Faculty-Led Study Abroad program includes anticipated expenses associated with international travel, accommodations, academic experiences, and program activities. This is a cost estimate and is subject to change based on airfare, exchange rates, enrollment, and other factors. 

The preliminary budget below is provided to help students plan financially for this experience. Students are encouraged to review the estimated costs carefully and consider additional personal expenses such as meals not included in the program, souvenirs, and personal travel.

Students interested in participating in the Across the Isles: From London to Dublin study abroad program must complete the required application and submit all materials by the established deadlines. Space is limited, students are encouraged to apply early.

Student Eligibility: 

  • All participants must be registered for CSC credit or for "audit" and, therefore, are considered students at CSC. 
  • Participants must be enrolled as part-time or full-time students. 
  • College students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5. 
  • Students will not be allowed to participated if they are on academic or disciplinary probation or suspension.

Faculty Directors will accompany the students during their two-week trip to London, Galway, and Dublin. Meet your faculty directors! 

Dr. Mary Donahue has been an art professor at Chadron State College since 2004. She teaches Art Appreciation, Painting, and Graphic Design classes. She began taking strips with students in 2005 and loves traveling with students to learn and explore about art and life. These yearly trips have been to Omaha, Denver, Boulder (Colorado), Minneapolis, Kansas City, Salt Lake City, Moab (Utah), Cody and Jackson (Wyoming), Seattle, and Las Vegas, and other stops along the way! These visits have included art museums, galleries, meeting with art and design professionals, historical sites, and national parks. While in graduate school, Mary traveled for five weeks in Europe with a backpack and Eurail Pass, seeing Germany, Holland, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, and France. This past summer she traveled to Spain. Mary believes there’s no better way to learn than through travel!

Mrs. Rachel McKinley is a faculty member in the English department, and teaches across creative writing, composition, and English education courses. She has lived abroad for various stints in London, Montreal, and Chiang Mai and has travelled extensively throughout Europe. Most recently, she spent two weeks in Dublin, Ireland and the surrounding areas as a part of a writing residency. She is passionate about travel as education and believes studying abroad has a positive lifelong impact on students.

Dr. Adam Hoesing has been a professor in Justice Studies since 2023, teaching primarily civil law courses.  Before that, he practiced law in Nebraska as a partner in a private firm, after attending Chadron State for his undergraduate degree and the University of Nebraska for law school, graduating with high distinction.  While attending Chadron State, Adam was a student on a previous version of this Study Abroad experience in 2008, and he is excited to return to the experience as a faculty leader.  He views the experience a truly transformative opportunity for students to experience the origins of and differences in our justice system and to discover their own potential on a global scale.
