Student Teaching Placement Application

This "gathering instrument" form is where you will tell us where you went to school, if you have any family members in school districts and the three choices of school districts that you would like us to try to place you in for your student teaching experience.

ALL Education courses including the Professional Year courses must be a C or better and endorsement courses (check catalog for endorsement GPA requirements) are prerequisites for student teaching and you must have a minimum overall GPA of a 2.75 to get PLACED for student teaching.  If you do not have the State-required minimum overall GPA of 2.75 the semester prior to student teaching, then you will not get placed until you do.  If after the Professional Year courses, you do not have the required 2.75 or if you did not pass one of the Professional Year classes with a C or better, you will be pulled from your student teaching placement.

Dual majors (ex: Elementary and SPED) are required by the State to spend more weeks of student teaching, ask Stef for clarification on the number of weeks you will need to student teach.

Frequently asked questions:

• Endorsement and Major are the same thing – ex: Elementary Ed K-8, Health and PE PK-12, Middle Level Math 5-9, etc.
• Make sure you list ALL of your endorsements, including supplementals if you have them.
• We can place in a school district where you have family members, BUT we will NOT place you with your family members either as board members, superintendents, principals, cooperating teachers or students. These relationships could interfere with objective evaluation of your student teaching experience.
• Please list three DIFFERENT districts that you want me to try to place you at. Even if you are already employed by the district that you want, sometimes the placements don’t work out for some reason.  Do NOT list three different schools in the same district, they must be three different districts.  If you do not list three different school districts, your form will be returned to you.
• The State requires that cooperating teachers must have at least 3 years of teaching experience, at least one year in their current building and capacity and they must be certified in the endorsement area/level you are working on.
• If placement is not possible in the three school districts that you have initially provided, additional choices will be requested. Don’t get discouraged!
• If you want to student teach outside of CSC’s supervision regions, you will need to pay for the out-of-area supervisor out of pocket. If you want to check to see if where you want to go is in-area or out-of-area before you choose them, shoot Stef an email.
• With that being said, placement can be attempted anywhere that is requested! Last semester, student teachers were placed on the west coast and on the east coast. If you have an uncle in Delaware or a grandma in Oregon, that placement can be attempted!! Think outside the box!
• Once a placement has been secured and Stef has notified you of your placement, contact the principal and cooperating teachers to make a plan to visit before the prior semester gets out. Make sure that you get the district’s Teacher Handbook to read over prior to starting your student teaching experience.
• On the last part of the form, please tell me WHERE you completed your previous field experience observation hours from Intro and O&P. Not what college you were enrolled in, but what PK-12 schools you went to observe in.

This application will be sent to the districts that are considered for your student teaching experience to give them more information about you prior to accepting a placement.  Please be mindful of grammar, language, and typos before you submit the form.  You want to make the best first impression even if it is just in writing!!

Frequently asked questions:

• Home address and Current address might be the same, please say same in Current if they are. Home address would be your parent’s or permanent address if you are an oncampus student.
• Other College Coursework means if you attended another college other than CSC, what was the name of that college.
• Remember endorsement and major are the same thing.
• Work experiences can be anything from the past 5 years or so, especially if you have been working with children.
• Travel experience can be anywhere in US or abroad.
• If you do not participate in oncampus activities, do you participate in community activities such as Girl or Boy Scouts, afterschool programs, Awanas, FCS, city council, etc.
• The reason for asking about the health problems questions is what if you are left alone with a classroom full of students and something happens to you. The schools need to be aware of this.  Please be honest.
• Don’t go crazy with the things you would like to assist with because schools will JUMP at the chance to have you do a LOT of things and you need to concentrate on your student teaching first.
• Personal statement can be ANYTHING you want them to know……SELL YOURSELF HERE!! You can talk about why you want to be a teacher or about your family or really whatever you want to talk about (in reason of course).
