Art Day 2026

Dear Art Teacher,

Chadron State College is hosting their annual Art Day for area high school students who excel and share an interest in the visual arts! On Tuesday, November 3, 2026, you are invited to gather for workshops in a variety of art and design mediums with the students, staff, and faculty of the CSC Art Department. A CSC Admissions table will be set up in the Memorial Hall Lobby with an Admissions representative available to talk with students and teachers.

In the Main Gallery of Memorial Hall will be an art show called The Weight of Dust, a solo artist exhibition showcasing work by Jayne Struble. On the 2nd floor of Memorial Hall in Gallery 239 (top of the stairs and left) is an exhibit from prominent African American sculptor, William E. Artis, who taught at CSC from 1954 -1965. He studied with well-known Harlem Renaissance artist, Augusta Savage.

Teachers are welcome to sit in on workshops or relax and get acquainted with one another in our Teacher Hospitality Center in the Mari Sandoz High Plains Heritage Center. At the Center you can find exhibits about Mari Sandoz, famous writer from the Sandhills and other exhibits of local history and imagery. In downtown Chadron, you can take a walking tour of Chadron’s own Art Alley and mural projects, located in the alley just west of Main Street between 2nd and 3rd Avenues. Chadron also has a cooperative art gallery, Chadron Open Art. Within the gallery is a local Café, The Wandering Lilac, found at 223 Main St.

Each school is asked to limit their numbers to no more than 10 students (preferably juniors and seniors) due to facility size and staff numbers. For lunch on your own, there is a cafeteria on campus as well as local restaurants in town.

We need to have teachers and each of your students who plan on attending to register individually at 2026 CSC Art Day Registration – Fill out form no later than Thursday, October 22nd.  We are hoping to provide Art Day T-shirts again this year so please remember to include your size on the registration form, just in case.
