Please keep in mind it can take 4-6 weeks to evaluate your eligibility for federal aid.
Only degree-seeking students are eligible for federal aid.
To be considered for federal funds like Pell Grant, Direct Loans and Work-Study, you must complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). You must do a new FAFSA prior to each academic year, for which you wish to be considered.
Students and parents of dependent students are required to create a FSA ID in order to sign the FAFSA electronically.
You are encouraged to complete your FAFSA no less than 90 days prior to the start of the term or session for which you plan to begin. In order to be considered for all types of federal and state aid, please submit by the priority deadline - February 1.
For more information about applying for federal aid, visit studentaid.gov.
The FAFSA is sent to CSC electronically. Check your MyCSC To Do list and EagleMail for updates on your FAFSA processing status.
For more information about dependency and a list of the dependency questions, visit studentaid.gov
Once CSC has your FAFSA, you will receive an email via EagleMail letting you know we have it. It can take 4-6 weeks to process your FAFSA.
Verification: About 1/3 of financial aid applications are selected for verification. This means you are required to provide additional documentation to CSC, before your federal aid can be awarded. If you are selected, the documents the START Office needs will be listed on your MyCSC To Dos.
It is important you check your MyCSC To Dos and your EagleMail for notifications of any other documents we may need or questions we might have, as we review your FAFSA.
You will be notified via EagleMail when your financial aid package is ready to view in your MyCSC account.
Visit studentaid.gov for a detailed explanation of these calculations.
Eligible students are offered aid on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Your EFC is calculated from the information provided on your FAFSA and reflects the amount you and your family are expected to contribute toward your educational expenses. CSC uses this number to determine your financial aid need. Your EFC and your eligibility for Pell Grant is the same wherever you decide to attend school.
The COA is based on costs for two semesters and includes allowances for tuition, fees, room, board, books and supplies, transportation and miscellaneous personal expenses. Tuition, fees and book costs are based on enrollment status (full time, 3/4, 1/2 and less than halftime). Room, meals, transportation and personal expense costs are based on weeks of enrollment.
Your eligibility for need-based aid (grants, Work Study, and/or Subsidized Student Loan) is determined using the following formula:
To determine how much non-need-based aid (Unsubsidized Student Loans and/or Parent PLUS loan) you can receive, CSC takes your cost of attendance and subtracts any financial aid you’ve already been o.
These are the estimated costs (COA based on enrollment status, residency status and living arrangements).
The Federal Pell Grant and Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant are automatically accepted on your behalf. The Nebraska Opportunity Grant will appear as "unaccepted," but will be automatically accepted once approval is received from the State of Nebraska.
You must accept scholarships awarded by CSC. Thank you notes may be required for certain awards and will be put on your To Dos for you to complete (you do not need to write thank you notes for waivers).
Students are required to report outside scholarships via the Outside Scholarship Notification Form and are considered part of your financial aid package. Outside Scholarships will show as "accepted" once the funding is received by CSC from the scholarship donor/foundation. You do not need to accept Outside Scholarships via MyCSC.
Direct Student Loans
Direct Student Loans need to be accepted or declined in your MyCSC account. The amount offered is for the academic year. The amount you accept is divided in half -- half for fall, half for spring. For example, if you accept a $1000 loan, you will receive $500 in the fall and $500 in the spring. You can also accept a lower amount than what was offered.
If you are starting at CSC in the spring, you will receive the full amount you accept for the spring term.
If you accept Direct Student Loans (Sub or Unsub), and you are a new borrower you will be required to complete Entrance Loan Counseling and a Master Promissory Note, which will appear on your To Dos.
Parent PLUS Loans
If you accept your Parent Plus Loan, you are accepting on behalf of your parents. They will then need to complete additional loan documents that will appear on your To Dos. You can accept a lower amount than what was offered. The Parent PLUS loan is subject to credit approval.
For information about Federal Direct Student and Parent Loans, visit Federal Student Aid.
If you feel you or your family have special circumstances that may affect your need for federal financial aid, you may complete the Special Circumstances Request Form.
Examples of special circumstances include but are not limited to:
Your request will be reviewed, and you will be notified within 7-10 days if we need additional information. If we do not need additional information and your request is accepted, we will proceed with the request. Once a decision is made, it cannot be appealed to the United States Department of Education.
If you receive scholarships, grants, tuition waiver assistance, veteran's benefits, or any other assistance through an agency or organization other than CSC, you must report that assistance to the START Office so it can be included in your total financial aid package using the CSC Outside Scholarship Notification Form.
As a financial aid recipient, you are legally required to keep the CSC informed of all resources received from outside agencies or organizations. If you receive additional awards from other agencies or organizations any time during the award year, we may have to adjust your Federal Student Financial Aid award or you may be required to return a portion of your Federal Student Financial Aid.
