Thirty-three chosen for RHOP

Mar 12, 2020

CHADRON – Twenty-four Nebraska high school students have been selected as participants in the Rural Health Opportunities Program (RHOP) at Chadron State College. Additionally, nine high school students were selected as alternates.

According to Director of Health Professions Kristal Kuhnel, one interviewer from the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) said this year’s interview pool is the strongest in their 18 years of involvement with RHOP.

Students selected as participants in the program receive a full tuition scholarship. Students complete pre-professional education at CSC with pre-admittance to UNMC. Often, alternates become participants before their time at CSC is completed, according to Kuhnel.

Founded in 1989, RHOP is a collaborative program between Chadron State College and the University of Nebraska Medical Center. After earning their professional degrees, RHOP participants are expected and encouraged to return to rural Nebraska to provide quality health care.
