Students encouraged to apply for RLOP

CHADRON – Nebraska high school students are encouraged to apply for the Rural Law Opportunities Program (RLOP) at Chadron State College, according to Kate Pope, RLOP Project Coordinator.
Applications are due Nov. 15 and interviews will take place Nov. 20.
Eligible students must be rural Nebraska residents or have a connection to rural Nebraska and apply for admission to CSC. Strong applicants will demonstrate strong academic potential as evidenced by GPA, ACT/SAT scores, letters of recommendation, and the interview.
Pope said one of the most valuable aspects of RLOP at CSC is that students don’t have to navigate the path to law school on their own. They receive financial support, guidance, and opportunities to connect with legal professionals while they complete their undergraduate degree.
Chadron State also offers a unique opportunity through its Legal Studies major, where students learn from former practicing attorneys and gain a deeper understanding of the legal profession before heading to law school.
Irelynd Baldwin of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, president of the Legal Eagles Club, said RLOP has helped her immensely.
“This program has allowed me to get to know my professors, meet other legal studies students, provide financial aid, and help me make connections I never imagined. Applying early definitely helped and it allowed me to start learning about and utilizing the resources provided by this program before I was even accepted,” Baldwin said. “I would absolutely encourage any interested students to apply as soon as possible so they can set themselves up for success in this scholarship and in their future schooling at CSC.”
Devin Konicek of Ord, Nebraska, said the advantages of RLOP are numerous.
“The various opportunities that come from the program prepare you not only for that next step but other aspects of it also help you engage with and develop the skills and knowledge for going into a law related career,” Konicek said. “I feel the program has allowed me to really connect and explore the law field and prepare me for going to law school.”
