CHADRON – The Chadron State College campus plans to focus on simple, visible ways to show support for survivors and remind them they are not alone during Domestic Violence Awareness Month this October, according to Title IX Coordinator Jody Motz.

Throughout the month, a Community Pledge Tree will be displayed in the Student Center. Motz and the DOVES Program invite the CSC community to share the No. 1thing they can do to support survivors of domestic violence in notes on the tree.

On Thursday, Oct. 15, Title IX and President Dr. Jodi Kupper encourage campus to participate in National Wear Purple Day in support of survivors. Participants are invited to meet on the steps of Crites Hall for a picture at 9 a.m. to show visible solidarity, according to Motz.

“Chadron State College is committed to maintaining a campus community where survivors are supported, respected, and heard. This October, as part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, I encourage our students and employees to stand with survivors and help reinforce a culture of acceptance and support,” Kupper said.

Other acts of awareness and support include purple ribbons presenting messages of hope, ideas for supporting those impacted by domestic violence, and information about reporting to Title IX displayed along the main corridor of campus and Domestic Violence Awareness door tags on employee offices.

“We hope these efforts help reinforce a campus culture of support, respect, and awareness,” Motz said.
