CHADRON – Chadron State College is aware of recent vandalism involving Bike Share bicycles on campus, according to Associate Director of Housing and Residence Life Christian Miller, who helps manage the bike share program. The college is working with campus officials to assess the damage and address the issue and all users of the Bike Share program are asked to be respectful of the bikes.

The CSC Bike Share program provides a convenient, sustainable transportation option for students, employees, and visitors. Vandalism and misuse can reduce the number of bicycles available and create unnecessary repair and replacement costs.

Users are encouraged to locate an available Bike Share bicycle on campus and inspect it before riding. Miller said users should not ride a bike that appears damaged or unsafe. Riders are responsible for following traffic laws and operating bicycles safely.

When CSC students are finished using a bicycle, the bike should be returned to a rack on campus. Miller said bikes should not be left overnight at off-campus homes, businesses, or parks.

“Please use each bicycle as intended. Do not intentionally damage, alter, or misuse Bike Share equipment,” Miller said. “If a bike needs maintenance or repair, report it promptly rather than continuing to ride it or attempting to repair or alter it yourself.”

Report maintenance needs, repairs, or vandalism to rla@csc.edu.

“Bike Share can remain free, convenient, and easy to access only with the care and cooperation of the CSC campus community. Continued damage and misuse may require the college to restrict access or reconsider how the program operates,” Miller said.
