The first segment of the Spring Graves Lecture Series will be held on Tuesday, March 15th featuring Dr. Tawny Tibbits, Assistant Professor in Mathematical and Natural Sciences. Tibbits will discuss Maya archeology in Belize, her research in Belize, and a history of the Maya in the area. She will also address how granite played a role in the average Maya household and how the new technology in handheld x-ray florescence is changing our understanding of production an exchange for stone tools.
Dr. Tibbits received her PhD in Geoscience from the University of Iowa and joined the CSC faculty in the Fall 2019 semester. In addition to her responsibilities at CSC, Tibbits is working with both Belize and Bolivia as a geoarcheologist for archaeological projects looking at the production and exchange of various goods.
On Tuesday, March 29th, Joanne Hayes will discuss “How I Got Here.” Joanne Hayes is an Assistant Professor in the Professional Studies and Education Department at Chadron State College. Joanne was raised in a small town in California, but because her father was in the military, she moved frequently. She has not only lived in numerous states, she has also lived in England and Ireland. Throughout her many moves, Joanne continued to further her education and along the way discovering her passion for teaching and landing the perfect job in the perfect town – Chadron, Nebraska.
Joanne Hayes holds a BA from Northeastern University, a MA from Cambridge College, a MA from University of Texas, and is currently pursuing her PhD in Education.
Dr. Margaret Crouse will wrap up the Spring Graves Lecture Series on Tuesday, April 12th. Crouse will share her pilgrimage to Israel, a trip organized by Chadron St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Father Todd Philipsen, Chadron St. Patrick’s Church in Chadron Nebraska She will enlighten the audience with various sights she visited including Tiberius, Nazareth, Jerusalem (including walking the Stations of the Cross), Bethlehem, the Dead Se, the River of Jordan, Masada, and more!
Dr. Crouse is retired CSC Faculty and Dean. During her tenure at CSC, Crouse served as a Professor in the Family and Consumer Sciences program, as a Dean in each academic school except one, was an active participant in the HLC Accreditation, has published extensively, and has received countless teaching and leadership awards. Crouse holds a PhD from Oklahoma State University, a MS from Oklahoma State University and a BS from Kansas State University.
