Early Alert Directions

  • WHY: To initiate an intrusive advising contact for a struggling student
  • TIMELINE: The earlier in the term the more effective the intervention will be
  • REASONS TO CREATE EARLY ALERT:
    • Academic: Struggling with writing, test taking, academic content, generally poor grades, lack of participation, overdue assignments, excessive absences, lazy/lack of motivation, Transitional Studies Program Student, lacking motivation, student identifies they are in wrong major
    • Personal: Behavior/mental/emotional health issues, physical health issues, dorm/roommate issues
    • These are behaviors you might notice when you become aware of a student's academic struggle
  • REASONS NOT TO CREATE AN EARLY ALERT:
    • Emergency situation: CALL 911!
    • For issues requiring IMMEDIATE attention call Kathy Mason x6231 (day) or Security x6037 (night)
    • Emotional Counseling: Jerry Cassiday x6268 Emergency Counseling/after hours 430-4593

Process
No longer a web form!!

  1. Access your Faculty Page page within MyCSC.
  2. Navigate Teaching tab to Grade Rosters
  3. Under the Correction Roster column click on "Completed" for desired course
  4. In the selected roster click on the dialog icon next to the students name. Make note of any concerns you have about the student's performance in class. Be factual and not opinion based! Students can request to read any comments made to their student file.
  5. Change the status on EACH class to "Completed" and Save. You can resave each time you make a new comment. You can go back to the dialog icon to see updates from Early Alert staff.
