Bringing a Computer to Campus

Suggested Operating Systems

Windows 7, Vista or XP operating systems

Suggested Application Software

Many academic departments use Windows Office 2010 Professional which is also installed in campus computer labs.  Please check with your academic advisor for specific software that may be recommended for your major and courses.

Residence Hall Network Connection Requirements

• CAT5 or 6 Ethernet cable with RJ45 terminations (this is not a phone cable).
  Cable length will depend on the location of your computer in relation to the location of the port in the room.
   
• 10/100 Ethernet card (NIC) with RJ45 jack and drivers installed on the computer.
   
• Current versions of the Operating System, Antivirus and Antispyware software.
  A Virus free computer and updated software are required in order to connect!

 

Wireless Network Connection Requirements

• 802.11b or 802.11g Wireless network adapter.
   
• Current versions of the Operating System, Antivirus and Antispyware software.
   
• Virus-free computer and updated software.

Other

A CD or DVD drive and a minimum of one USB port are recommended for installing software, backing up and storing files.
