Incoming Freshmen Scholarships

Deadline: January 15

Students need to submit only one application for all CSC Scholarships, except for the following: Board of Trustees, Governor’s Opportunity Award, Agriculture, Athletics, Art, Social Sciences and Theatre. Please review the Scholarship Listing below for more details regarding the scholarships available. Applications postmarked after the deadline will be considered in the second round of awarding.

Board of Trustees

   Requires special application

The Board of Trustees Tuition Waiver Scholarship is a four year tuition scholarship which covers up to 16 credit hours of on-campus tuition for eight consecutive semesters. A 3.25 cumulative grade point average is required for renewal each year. Qualifications are:

  • You must be a graduating senior from a NE high school
  • You must be a NE resident
  • You must have a 25+ ACT composite score or 1700+ SAT score

Governor’s Opportunity Award

   Requires special application

Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman has announced a new partnership with the Nebraska State College System, which is creating a new scholarship aimed at Nebraska high school seniors who hope to stay in the state after college and become leaders in their communities.

The Governor's Opportunity Award is a four year half tuition waiver for a student enrolled in one of the three state colleges up to 16 credit hours of on-campus tuition for eight consecutive semesters and can be renewed for four years at Chadron, Peru and Wayne State Colleges. Three students will be awarded scholarships each academic year.

Qualifications are:

  • 21-24 ACT Composite or 1500-1650 SAT Score

Applicants will be asked to write an essay detailing their interest in staying in Nebraska after college graduation, how they plan to become a leader in their community and contribute to the state’s economic landscape. Grade point average and involvement in activities, organizations and service projects will also be taken into consideration.

Application materials are on the Nebraska State College System Web site, www.nscs.edu, and can also be obtained from high school guidance counselors. The deadline to apply is Dec. 1. A committee of state college admissions directors will select the recipients.

Cooperating Schools

   Apply through High School Counselor

Coop is a half tuition waiver awarded each year to high school graduates from those public schools assisting with the student teaching program of Chadron State College. The recipient must maintain a 2.0 GPA. Applications may be obtained by contacting the high school principal or guidance counselor. Winners and alternates are selected by the high school.

Presidential Scholarships

Gold Presidential

Students with a 25 or 26 ACT/1700 - 1819 SAT score, 3.0+ grade point average and graduate in the top half of graduating class may be considered for this award provided the CSC Scholarship Application is fully completed and postmarked by the January 15 deadline. Recipients will receive a four-year tuition scholarship to apply up to 16 credit hours of on-campus tuition for eight consecutive semesters. Students must enroll full-time with CSC and maintain a 3.25 cumulative grade point average to qualify for the renewal each year. Students with a 27+ ACT/ 1820+ SAT score, 3.0+ grade point average and graduate in the top half of graduating class will receive this scholarship provided the CSC Scholarship Application is fully completed and postmarked by the January 15 deadline.

Eagle Presidential

Students must have a 23+ ACT / 1590+ SAT score, 3.0+ grade point average and graduate in the top half of graduating class to be considered for this award provided the CSC Scholarship Application is fully completed and postmarked by the January 15 deadline. Recipients will receive a four-year, one-half tuition scholarship to apply up to 16 credit hours of on-campus tuition for eight consecutive semesters. Students must enroll full-time with CSC and maintain a 3.0 cumulative grade point average to qualify for the renewal each year.

Silver Presidential

Students must have a 22+ ACT/ 1530+ SAT score, 3.0+ grade point average and graduate in the top one-half of graduating class to be considered for this award provided the CSC Scholarship Application is fully completed and postmarked by the January 15 deadline. Recipients will receive a four-year, one-quarter tuition scholarship to apply up to 16 credit hours of on-campus tuition for 8 consecutive semesters. Students must enroll full-time with CSC and maintain a 3.0 cumulative grade point average to qualify for the renewal each year.

Related to Alumni

The Chadron State Alumni Association annually awards two $500 scholarships. Applicants must have a relative who graduated from CSC. Interested applicants may print and complete the attached form. Return it to the Alumni Office by April 1, 2013. Contact the Alumni Office for additional information.

Entering Freshmen CSC Scholarships

The Abbott Foundation Endowed

Scholarships are provided for students majoring in Business Administration. The recipients must have graduated from a high school located in Chadron, Alliance, Bridgeport, Cody, Hemingford, Gordon, Merriman, Valentine, Thedford, Hyannis or Mullen.

Bank of the West Endowment

A general scholarship to a low to moderate income level recipient(s).

Norb & Karen Arnoldy Endowed

A scholarship is provided for a graduate of either Chadron or Crawford High Schools. The recipient is to be a freshman selected on the basis of scholastic ability, leadership and need.

James Augustine Memorial

A scholarship will be provided for a freshman student. The recipient will be selected on the basis of scholastic ability.

Bahr, Vermeer & Haecker, Architects, Ltd., Annual

A scholarship will be provided to a student majoring in Pre-Engineering. The recipient shall have a GPA of 2.5 or better.

G. Bruce & Elva Bartels Endowed

One award shall be made available to an Education major of college freshman level. The recipient must have a GPA of at least 3.5.

Jennie Bennett & Emma Steckelberg Memorial

The recipient of this scholarship must be a student from Sheridan County majoring in Elementary Education, English or Spanish. The scholarship will be awarded to a student who has a combination of good grades and a record of commendable activity and need.

Benthack, Bright & Blake Memorial

A scholarship will be provided for a freshman student from the eastern one-half of Deuel County or the western one-third of Keith County in Nebraska. The recipient is selected on the basis of scholastic ability, activities, character and need.

James T. Bentley

The donor has suggested the following criteria be considered. However, none of the criteria are restrictive and any undergraduate student may apply. Items to be considered: major in Education, resident of Illinois, scholarship and financial need.

A scholarship will be provided for a graduate of Chadron High School. Recipient will be determined by the Chadron State College Scholarship Committee. The scholarship will be automatically re-awarded to the recipient each fall for the next three years with the condition that the student is enrolled at Chadron State College and has maintained at least a 3.0 GPA.

Paul P. & Mayme Brown

A scholarship will be provided for a freshman student. The recipient will be selected on scholastic ability and financial need.

Bruce Furniture, Inc.

An annual scholarship will be provided for a high school senior possessing a 2.5 GPA or holding a rank in the upper one-half of his/her class. First priority will be given to a graduate of Scottsbluff, Box Butte, Grant or Sheridan County High School, majoring in Business. Second priority will be given to a graduate of any of the above high schools regardless of major.

Elmira S. Burdge Memorial

A general scholarship will be provided.

Business Advisory Board Ag-business Annual

A scholarship will be provided for a student majoring in ag-business.

CABELA’S CSC Education Fund

In order of preference, these scholarships will be awarded to children of Cabela’s employees from Cheyenne County who are Pell Grant eligible; students from Cheyenne County who are Pell Grant eligible; children of Cabela’s employees in the State of Nebraska who are Pell Grant eligible; students from Nebraska who are Pell Grant eligible. Recipients must have a minimum 2.5 GPA

C-A-R-E Scholarship

The C-A-R-E Scholarship endowment was established in 1987 with contributions from alumni and friends of Chadron State College. This is a one-year, nonrenewable $500 award, available to first time students, as well as continuing/returning CSC students. Requirements for this scholarship vary according to the applicant’s status. Recipients are selected on the basis of previous academic achievement and their potential for excellence.

John Castek Memorial

A scholarship will be provided for a student who has attended a rural Dawes County school. The selection will be based on scholastic ability.

Tomas Castillo Memorial

A scholarship will be provided for an undergraduate, minority student who graduated from a Panhandle high school with a 2.5 or above GPA. Recipients will be selected on the basis of financial need.

Chadron High School Class of 1968 Endowed

A scholarship will be provided for a major in Business/Technical studies. First preference shall be given to a graduate of Chadron High School. The recipient shall have a GPA of 3.0 or better.

Chadron Prep Alumni Endowment

Awards from this endowment will be awarded first to an alumnus of Chadron Prep School or a direct descendent of a Chadron Prep alumnus. Second preference will be given to students from area schools who plan to attend CSC.

Chadron Rotary

An annual scholarship is provided for two undergraduates with at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA. First preference will be given to a spouse or dependent of a Chadron Rotarian. Second preference will be a Chadron High School graduate.

Chadron State Academic Achievement Award

Available to incoming freshmen and transfer students. This one-year, nonrenewable award is based on GPA and/or ACT scores and leadership potential.

Chasteen Family Endowed

A scholarship available for any college student with a GPA of at least 3.0. Preference is given to students with financial need.

Vern & Frances Chicoine Endowed

Awards are available for nontraditional students with financial needs.

Gerald G. Christoffersen Endowed

A general, renewable scholarship shall be provided. Recipient shall have graduated in the upper 10 percent of their high school class and have a GPA of at least 3.25.

Elmer (Bud) & Hermie B. Cilek Endowed

A scholarship will be provided to any college student. The recipient must have been a 4–H Club member and must have a GPA of 3.0 or above.

Harold L. Clark Memorial

This scholarship is an annual scholarship for a freshman student. Selection is based on scholastic ability.

Virginia Kennedy Coffee

A scholarship will be provided for a freshman. First preference shall be given to any student from Sioux, Dawes or Box Butte counties majoring in agriculture, agri-business or music (with preference for vocal or choir). Second preference shall be given to any qualified student from Sioux County.

Virginia (McGregor) Coffey Annual

An annual award to a student of Native American descent. Recipient shall have at least a 2.5 GPA.

Community First State Bank -- Chadron

The Community First State Bank--Chadron provides one annual scholarship. The recipient is to be a freshman selected on the basis of scholastic ability, leadership and need.

Connealy Family

A scholarship will be provided for a Gordon High School graduate in his/her freshman year at Chadron State College. The selection is based on financial need.

Paula Jo Connell Memorial

A scholarship will be provided for a student pursuing Pre-School Education with second preference given to a student majoring in Elementary Education. Recipients will be selected on the basis of scholastic ability and character. This award is automatically renewable, provided the recipient continues to meet the required criteria specific to this scholarship.

Cook Family Endowed

A scholarship will be provided for a freshman or transfer student from Wyoming. First preference shall be given to a student from Niobrara, Goshen, Platte or Laramie counties in Wyoming. A GPA of at least 3.0 is required.

Crites-Shaffer

A scholarship will be provided for a full-time student who is a resident of Dawes, Sheridan, Box Butte or Sioux counties, graduating from an accredited high school. The award is automatically renewable, provided a 3.0 GPA is maintained.

Crow Butte Project Annual

A scholarship is provided to a student from a Dawes or Sioux County high school who is majoring in Science. The recipient must maintain a GPA of at least 3.0.

Paul Dannacher Memorial

A scholarship will be provided for a student majoring in the area of Business. Financial need is a consideration.

Dayco Products, Inc.

An annual scholarship(s) is provided for a full-time, undergraduate with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0. The recipient must be an employee or a dependent of an employee of DAYCO.

Dean-Outhouse Family Endowed

A scholarship will be awarded to a full-time student. Financial need is consideration. The recipient shall have at least a 3.0 GPA. The award is automatically renewable, provided a 3.0 GPA is maintained and the recipient has successfully passed the PPST.

Rolland & Deloris Dewing History

A scholarship will be provided for a full-time, undergraduate who is majoring in History or Social Science, with a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 or an ACT score of 18 or above.

Ward Diehl Endowed

Scholarship awards are provided for freshman students.

Bernard J. Donohue

A scholarship is provided for a nontraditional student who graduated from a Nebraska Panhandle high school. Preference will be given to a student majoring in English, Journalism or Elementary Education and entering the Professional Teaching semester. A 2.5 or above GPA is required.

Edna B. Drummond Memorial

A scholarship shall be provided for a student majoring in Business Education. Financial need is a consideration.

Josephine R. Eastman Memorial

A general scholarship will be provided.

J. Walter & Mary K. Fitts Endowed

A scholarship is provided for a student majoring in Math or Science. The recipient must have a GPA of at least 3.0.

Fitzgibbon/Muller International Club

A scholarship will be provided for a student who has been a citizen and residence of a country other than the United States before coming to Chadron State College. Ted Galusha Memorial

An annual scholarship is provided for a full-time student majoring in Fine Arts. Preference is given in this order: Music, Drama and Art. The recipient must be of freshman, sophomore or junior level.

Doris Gates Memorial

The recipient must be a junior and have maintained at least a 3.0 GPA for the freshman and sophomore years. The student must be majoring in the Science field and show an interest in the study of plants, animals, birds and their habitat, including the problem of conservation.

Hyle Gatzemeyer Memorial

A scholarship will be provided for a full-time, undergraduate resident of western Nebraska.

P.O. & Grace Gaylord Family Memorial

A scholarship will be provided for a Pre-Engineering student. The recipient is selected on the basis of scholastic ability.

Giggling Gals 4–H

An annual scholarship will be given to a freshman student involved in at least five years of 4–H including their high school senior year. Five home economics 4–H projects are a prerequisite for consideration. The recipient shall be from the Nebraska Panhandle, with preference given to Dawes County. The applicant needs to attach a letter from his/her county agent verifying eligibility.

Gramberg Endowed

A scholarship is provided for a full-time, freshman majoring in Industrial Technology. Recipient must be enrolled in six hours of Industrial Technology courses each semester and must have at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA.

Gusner Endowed

Applicants shall be able to demonstrate need, as determined by the CSC Financial Aid Director. Recipient shall be an Education major with a GPA of at least 3.0.

F. Dale & Marilyn Hammer

First consideration for this scholarship will be given to a direct descendent of the Otto Johnson family or William Likely, Sr., family. Second consideration will be given to a high school graduate of one of the following counties: Holt, Sioux, Dawes, Sheridan, Cherry, Brown, Rock and Keya Paha of Nebraska. Recipients will be selected on the basis of scholarship ability, character and financial need. Several scholarships will be provided for students from Nebraska. The recipients will be selected on scholastic ability and character.

A scholarship is provided for a student who has at least a 3.5 GPA. Selection is based on scholastic ability.

Scholarships will be awarded to students from Sioux, Box Butte, Dawes and Sheridan Counties on the basis of financial need.

Leland Houder Memorial

A scholarship will be provided for an undergraduate student majoring in Secondary Mathematics Education with a 2.5 or above GPA. The award is automatically renewable, provided the recipient continues to maintain at least a 2.75 GPA and has passed the PPST successfully.

Gene & Margaret Ann Hughes

A scholarship shall be provided to a graduate of Scottsbluff High School or a transfer student from WNCC. The recipient must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 with a 3.0 or greater preferred.

Frances Burnham Hunt Education Endowed

A scholarship will be provided for a full-time, undergraduate student. Preference will be given to an Education major. Recipient must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above. The award is automatically renewable, provided the recipient achieves a cumulative 2.75 GPA or above, and has passed the PPST successfully.

Delores Y. Irelan Endowed

A scholarship shall be made available for a student majoring in Advanced Mathematics or Science, with the intention of pursuing a career in education or scientific research. The award is automatically renewable, provided the recipient continues to meet the required criteria specific to this scholarship.

Clifford L. Johnson Endowed

A number of scholarships will be provided for freshmen or transfer students who graduated from Cheyenne, Deuel, Garden or Keith County in Nebraska, or Sedgwick County in Colorado. Preference will be given to students majoring in Education. Recipients must have and maintain at least a 3.0 GPA.

A scholarship will be provided for a full-time, undergraduate student.

Keith D. Kemper Memorial

A scholarship shall be provided for students majoring in the area of Journalism. The recipient shall have a GPA of at least 3.5 and have served as a member of the Eagle Newspaper staff for at least one semester.

Gerald Kennedy Memorial

A scholarship will be provided for a full-time, undergraduate student. Recipient must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5 and demonstrate financial need.

A scholarship will be awarded to a recipient based on scholastic ability and need.

Lambert Family

A scholarship will be provided to a full-time, undergraduate student. The recipient shall have a GPA of at least 2.0 or have graduated in the upper one-half of his/her class. Financial need is also a factor. Preference will be given to a descendant of the Hezekiah or Martha (Gorr) Lambert family. The award is automatically renewable, provided a 2.0 GPA is maintained.

A general award will be provided for a full-time, undergraduate student of Chadron State College. The recipient will be selected by the Chadron State College Scholarship Committee.

Isabelle Confer Liehe Library Media

A scholarship will be provided for an undergraduate, full-time student. Preference shall be given to a student enrolled as an Educational Library Media major or seeking an Education degree with an endorsement or minor in Educational Library Media. Recipient must have an overall GPA of 2.5 or above. The award is automatically renewable, provided a 2.75 GPA is maintained and the recipient has successfully passed the PPST.

Larry Lochridge Endowed

The recipient of this scholarship shall be a non-Nebraska resident with a GPA of at least 2.5.

Hermine & C.J. Loghry Endowed

A scholarship will be awarded to a high school graduate of Dawes, Sioux or Sheridan counties who graduated with a minimum GPA of 3.25 and who has declared Pre-Nursing as a college major. Second preference would be given to a sophomore or junior majoring in Pre-Pharmacy. This scholarship is renewable one time, if the recipient has met the GPA requirements.

Marcella (McNeill) Luther Memorial Endowed

A scholarship will be provided for a second semester freshman that is a resident of Nebraska and is majoring in Elementary Education. The recipient shall have a GPA of 2.0 and shall not have received any other scholarships.

Helen Gertrude Lutz Memorial

A scholarship is provided for a student pursuing a career as a kindergarten teacher.

L. Ione Marshall Endowed

A scholarship will be provided for a full-time, undergraduate student. Preference will be given to a student majoring in Elementary Education. Recipient must have an overall GPA of 2.5 or above. The award is automatically renewable, provided the recipient achieves a cumulative 2.75 GPA or above and has successfully passed the PPST.

Elva Strom Martin Endowed

A scholarship will be provided for a student majoring in Family and Consumer Sciences. First preference shall be to an applicant whose emphasis is Child Development. The recipient must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and/or have ranked in the top one-third of his/her graduating class.

McDonald, Freed & Wiley Memorial

A scholarship will be provided for a Chadron High School senior who plans to attend Chadron State College.

Cindy Jean Mower Memorial

A scholarship will be provided for a full-time, undergraduate student.

Patrick Muldoon Memorial

A scholarship will be provided for a full-time, undergraduate student with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or above. The recipient will be selected on the basis of financial need.

Dr. Jan Murphy Memorial

A scholarship will be provided for a freshman student. First preference shall be given to any Crawford High School graduate. Second preference shall be given to any Education major. The recipient must have a GPA of 2.5 or above.

Edwin C. Nelson Endowed

A scholarship to a student who has graduated from a small rural town in Nebraska. The recipient shall have a GPA of 3.0 or better.

Edwin C. & Avis A. Nelson

A scholarship will be awarded to a freshman pursuing a career in teaching. The award is automatically renewable, provided the recipient continues to meet the required criteria specific to this scholarship.

Norman Family Endowed

A scholarship shall be provided for a student who has graduated from a Dawes County high school.

Pepper Creek Outdoor Learning

Scholarships shall be made available for students majoring in an outdoor learning field. The majors would include those in the Natural Sciences, Range Management and Recreation.

Robert Pifer Memorial

A scholarship will be provided for a full-time, undergraduate.

Caroline Sandoz Pifer Endowed

An undergraduate or graduate scholarship will be provided.

Dorothy Pine Memorial

A scholarship will be awarded to a student majoring in History or Family and Consumer Sciences. The recipient must be a graduate of Chadron High School.

Dorothy Post Memorial

A scholarship is available for a full-time, undergraduate Education major from Sheridan County. The recipient must have at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA.

Presidential Scholarships

A limited number of awards are provided to first-time, freshmen identified as having above average ability in the combined areas of academics, talent and leadership.

Lucille Rainbolt Memorial

A scholarship will be provided for a student majoring in Science or Math. The recipient shall have graduated from a high school in Wyoming or Nebraska and have a GPA of 3.0 or above.

Frances Hess & Wilbur "Eby" Richards Endowed

A scholarship shall be provided for an Education major. First preference shall be given to an Elementary Education major. Second preference will go to any Education major. The recipient must have at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA.

Troy J. Rickenbach Memorial

A scholarship will be provided for a full-time, freshman Chadron State College student who demonstrates need. The recipient shall be a graduate of Chadron High School who exhibits leadership characteristics. This award is automatically renewable, provided a 2.5 GPA is maintained.

Vern & Marjorie Rochek Endowed

This scholarship is provided for a student majoring in any degree or program and shall have a GPA of at least 2.5.

Blanche Sandoz

This scholarship is provided for a student majoring in Family and Consumer Sciences. Scholarship will be an important factor in the selection of a recipient.

Mari Sandoz

An annual scholarship will be provided for a freshman from Western Nebraska interested in Literature and/or History.

Vern & Marjorie Rocheck Endowed

A scholarship is provided for a student majoring in any degree or program. Consideration will be given to a student with a 2.5 or above GPA.

Fritz Sandoz Endowed

A scholarship is provided for a full-time, undergraduate student.

Chris & Marjorie Schulze

The Schulze Scholarship is provided for a Chadron High School graduate and is based upon scholarship. Preference will be given to the applicant who attended Chadron Kenwood Grade School and plans to major in Chemistry. The award is automatically renewable, provided the recipient continues to meet the required criteria specific to this scholarship.

Sheridan County

A scholarship will be provided for a high school graduate from Sheridan, Dawes or Box Butte counties. Preference will be given to Hay Springs High School graduates. The recipient must have demonstrated a desire and ability to succeed in college.

Ralph D. & Claire M. (Baker) Shipp

A scholarship will be provided for a graduate from a Sheridan or Cherry County high school. The award is automatically renewable, provided the recipient continues to meet the required criteria specific to this scholarship.

Ed Sparling Basketball Award

A scholarship will be provided for a CSC men's basketball player.

Alta Fox Steininger Endowed

Incoming freshman or transfer students shall be eligible for this award. Selection shall be based on scholastic achievement, volunteer activities, leadership qualities and financial need. The award is automatically renewable, provided the recipient continues to meet the required criteria specific to this scholarship.

Adelia Gebauer Taylor Memorial

Awards will be provided for female students.

Dora V. Taylor Endowed

A general award is available to a student who demonstrates need. Preference shall be given to an international student attending Chadron State College; however, the scholarship is not restricted to international students.

Harold & Kenneth Thompson Memorial

A scholarship will be awarded to a student majoring in Education or Business Administration. Preference will be given to a Business Administration major who has a Real Estate emphasis.

Elta Spencer & George H. Thompson Foundation Annual Scholarship

An annual award will be given to a student from Cheyenne County, Nebraska or whose parents live in Cheyenne County, Nebraska. Recipient may be of any grade level.

United Methodist Men Annual

An annual award is provided by the United Methodist Men.

Royce Vathauer Memorial

Scholarships will be awarded to students majoring in Elementary Education.

Leo & Joseph Vetter Memorial

The Vetter Memorial Fund provides a number of scholarships for residents or nonresidents whom are first-time students showing academic promise.

Georgia Muma Vondra

A scholarship provided to a resident of Chadron who has demonstrated financial need. The recipient shall have a GPA of 3.0 or better.

Wiedenfeld Family

Awards will be provided for students who have graduated from a high school located in Sioux, Dawes, Box Butte, Scottsbluff, Morrill, Garden, Sheridan or Banner Counties in Nebraska; and Fall River, Shannon or Custer Counties in South Dakota. Recipients must be able to demonstrate need and have a GPA of 3.0 or above.

Naomi J. Wilson Memorial

Agricultural Scholarships

Everett Colwell Memorial

A scholarship will be provided for a graduate from a northwest Nebraska high school and is pursuing a course of study in Agriculture. The recipient will be selected on a scholastic ability and need.

Hubert & Hazelle Finney Endowed

A scholarship for freshmen students. First preference will be given to a student from the Sandhills of Nebraska who is a rodeo athlete and in an agriculture-related major (pre-vet, agri-business, range management). Second preference will be to a student who is a rodeo athlete and an agriculture-related major. Third preference will be given to a student with an agriculture-related major. The recipient should have a GPA of 2.5 or above.

Art Scholarships

CSC Art Scholarships

A number of scholarships are awarded each year to students who plan to major in art. These scholarships are awarded on the basis of artistic and creative ability, rather than financial need. Please have a letter of recommendation sent by your art instructor or principal attesting to your interest and ability in art. Also, submit at least fifteen 35mm slides or color prints by mail, showing original art work in a wide range of materials.

Fortune-Chicoine Annual Fine Arts Scholarship

A scholarship will be provided for a student majoring in theatre, art or music.

Gerald G. Christoffersen Endowed

A renewable scholarship shall be given in the area of Fine Arts. Recipient shall have graduated in the upper 10 percent of their high school class and have a GPA of at least 3.25.

Athletics Scholarships

Athletic Waivers & Grants

A number of tuition waivers and grants are awarded to men and women participating in college athletics. Information may be obtained by contacting the Athletics Director.

Allen "Gene" Alcorn Memorial Football

A scholarship will be provided for a freshman student with a scholastic record indicating college success. The recipient must have played high school football and demonstrated an ability that would indicate success as a college football player. An application may be obtained by contacting the Athletics Director.

Armstrong Family

A number of scholarships will be provided for male students who have demonstrated by their performance and accomplishments in high school that they possess college athletic and scholastic potential. Information may be obtained by contacting the Athletics Director.

George W. Bowman Memorial

A CSC men’s basketball scholarship provided to a freshman or transfer student. First preference will be given to a player who is from Johnson, Iowa or Poweshiek County in Iowa. Second preference will be given to a player from the service region of Chadron State College. Contact the men’s basketball coach for further information.

Paul & Bernice Carroll Memorial

The Carroll Scholarship provides a scholarship for a male high school graduate. The recipient should have college potential in football, show academic promise and an interest in some phase of the science fields. An application may be obtained by contacting the Athletics Director.

Clifford W. "Pete" & Bernadette Carroll Endowed

A scholarship will be provided to a member of the Chadron State College football team. The recipient shall have a GPA of 3.0 or above. Contact the Athletics Director for more information.

Bill Coffee Football Scholarship

A scholarship will be awarded to any Chadron State College football player from western Nebraska. Preference shall be given to a student from the counties of Sioux or Dawes of Nebraska. The Chadron State Athletic Director shall determine the recipient of this scholarship. Information may be obtained by contacting the Athletics Director.

Rex & Ermine Coffee

A scholarship will be provided for a male student who has high academic and athletic ability and shows promise of becoming a varsity football player. Contact the Athletics Director for more information.

Lee Crawford Memorial Football

A scholarship will be provided for a full-time, freshman participating in football at Chadron State College. Recipient shall be a graduate of a Wyoming high school. Information may be obtained by contacting the Athletics Director.

Walter & Florence Hampton Science

A scholarship will be provided for a student majoring in Science. First preference will be given to a Science major who is also a member of the men’s basketball team. Second preference will be given to any Science major. Chemistry preferred. Contact the men’s basketball coach for further information.

Don Holst Endowed Track

A scholarship for freshmen track athletes from Nebraska. Recipient must have a GPA of at least 3.0. This scholarship is renewable, if the recipient has maintained good standing on the track team and met the GPA requirements. Contact the track coach for more information.

This scholarship is for a student athlete from Hay Springs, Rushville or Gordon, Nebraska.

Jim Montague Memorial

A scholarship will be awarded to an undergraduate who has college potential in basketball and who shows character and leadership. First preference will be given to a Chadron High School graduate. Purple Passion Picnic Athletic

A scholarship for an undergraduate student involved in football, basketball, wrestling or track. The recipient should have a GPA of 2.5 or better. Contact the Athletics Director for more information.

Brad Smith Endowed Football

A scholarship will be provided for any college student participating in football. The recipient shall have a GPA of 2.25 or above. Contact the Athletics Director for more information.

Stein Family Football

An annual scholarship will be provided for a Chadron High School graduate planning to play football or obtain a coaching endorsement at Chadron State College. Contact the Athletics Director for an application.

Bill "Steve" Stephenson Memorial

A scholarship will be provided for a member of the men’s basketball team. The recipient should have a minimum GPA of 2.5 or have graduated from high school in the top one-half of the class. The men’s basketball coach selects the recipient.

Business Scholarships

Constance F. & Forest W. Barnes Memorial Endowment

A scholarship shall be provided for a student majoring in Business. The Dean Professional and Graduate Studies shall make the decisions necessary for distribution of this award.

Gary Bunner Business

Scholarships will be provided for full-time, undergraduate students majoring in Business, Business Education, Real Estate, Office Management, Economics or Finance with a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5, or rank in the upper one-half of their high school graduating class.

Carl Horst Accounting

A scholarship will be provided for an undergraduate student majoring in the area of Accounting or Business Education. The recipient must have a GPA of 3.0 or above.

Lyle Kime Memorial

A scholarship will be provided to a married student who is majoring in Business Education or Business Administration. Selection is based on financial need.

Consideration will be given to a student who is taking French Composition courses. The recipient shall have a GPA of 3.0 or above.

A scholarship will be made available to any college level student, including Graduate. The recipient shall be majoring in the area of Psychology or Counseling and have maintained a High School or college GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

Kathryn Knapp Memorial

A scholarship will be provided for an Education major. Recipient must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5. This scholarship is renewable, if the recipient sends a written request for the renewal and has achieved a cumulative 2.75 GPA or above and passed the PPST successfully.

Anna Grace Mingus Memorial

A scholarship shall be provided for a nontraditional student majoring in Education. Recipient shall also have graduated from a high school located in Nebraska, South Dakota or Wyoming.

A scholarship will be provided for a student majoring in Human Ecology.

Janet R. Mitchell Family & Consumer Science Annual Scholarship

A scholarship will be provided for a student entering the FACS program at CSC. Recipient must have at least a 2.0 GPA. First priority shall be given to a person of financial need. Recipient may be of any grade level.

Industrial Technology Scholarships

Lawrence & Thelma Lindahl Memorial

A scholarship will be provided to a student pursuing a major in Industrial Technology. Second consideration will be given to Math and Science majors. Upperclassmen must have a GPA of 3.0 or above. Freshmen will be evaluated on their ACT composite score.

Lee Moeller ITE Endowed

A scholarship for an undergraduate student majoring in Industrial Technology. The recipient shall have a GPA of at least 2.0. This scholarship is renewable, if the student is taking a minimum of six hours in ITE.

A scholarship will be provided to a student majoring in one of the Language and Literature or Social Science degree programs. The recipient shall have a GPA of 3.5 or above.

A scholarship will be provided to a student that meets the requirements for eligibility and selection that are required by the RHOP program and shall be majoring in the RHOP program.

Ruth B. Christians Memorial

An annual scholarship will be provided for a first-time student from rural (western) Nebraska who has demonstrated academic promise.

A scholarship will be provided for students majoring in Math and participating in the Math Scholars Program.

Leonard Arthur & Berdyne Butcher Eddy Memorial

A scholarship is provided for a student of any college grade level majoring in the Natural Science area. The recipient shall have a 3.0 GPA.

A number of scholarships are provided for students. Preference will be given to students majoring in Pre-Medicine. Should the number of applicants in the above field not be available, then applicants in other science and/or teaching fields may considered.

Val Fitch Endowed Scholarship

A scholarship is provided for a student majoring or minoring in physics or mathematics. The recipient shall have a 3.0 GPA.

A scholarship will be provided for a Pre-Med student with financial need. Second preference will be given to a student enrolled in RHOP.

Dr. John Hawley Memorial

A scholarship is provided for a student from the panhandle of Nebraska, eastern Wyoming or southwest South Dakota majoring in the Pre-Veterinary program. The award will be based on scholastic ability and financial need.

Dr. Leo & Eunice Hoevet Memorial

A scholarship will be provided for a student who has demonstrated the ability and an interest in the field of medicine.

Hubert J. Liehe Memorial Scholarship

A scholarship will be provided for a student majoring in Physical Science. Recipient shall have a minimum of 3.0 GPA.

Dr. Dan Johnson Endowed

A scholarship shall be provided for a student enrolled in the Allied Health Field. First preference shall be given to a student enrolled in the Pre-Dentistry program. This award is automatically renewable, provided the recipient continues to meet the required criteria specific to this scholarship.

Kreycik Health Professions Endowment

A scholarship shall be provided for a student majoring in a health professions related field. Recipients may be of any college level and must have a GPA of at least 3.2. The Chair of the Physical and Life Sciences Department shall make selection, with recommendation from the Science Department faculty.

Dick & Marlene Myers Pre-Pharmacy

A scholarship for a pre-pharmacy student of any grade level. Recipient shall have a 3.5 or better GPA.

Linda K. Nitsch Health Professions Annual Scholarship

A scholarship shall be provided for a student enrolled in the health professions field.

Omaha World Herald Academic Scholars Program Scholarship

An Academic Scholars Program that provides room and board for a student majoring in Mathematics.

Charles Ruff & Wayne Stutheit

A scholarship will be provided for a student majoring in Pre-Medicine or the Allied Health Professions. The selection is based on scholarship.

Rural Health Opportunities Program

A scholarship will be awarded to a student from rural Nebraska who shows academic promise and has been selected to enroll in the Rural Health Opportunities Program at Chadron State College.

Lewis B. Sanders Memorial

A scholarship is given to a student presenting an outstanding scholastic record and majoring in Physics or Mathematics.

Marle & Laurine Smith

A scholarship will be provided for a freshman with academic promise in the fields of Physics, Mathematics or other related areas. The recipient may petition the Dean of Arts and Sciences, in writing, for renewal of the scholarship award before January 15 of the award year.

A scholarship shall be provided for a student majoring in Music Education or Speech/Theatre. The faculty of the Visual and Performing Arts Department shall select recipient.

Hazel Beckwith Morgan Memorial

A scholarship will be awarded to a student pursuing a Music or Music Education major.

Dr. William & Jean Boehle Music

A scholarship is provided for students majoring in Music. Recipients must possess a GPA of at least 2.5 or have graduated in the upper one-half of their class.

Gerald G. Christoffersen Endowed

A renewable scholarship shall be given in the area of Fine Arts. Recipient shall have graduated in the upper 10 percent of their high school class and have a GPA of at least 3.25.

Robert Hanlon Esquire Music Endowment

A scholarship will be provided for an upperclassman student with a major or minor in Music with an emphasis in Woodwind Instruments.

Fortune-Chicoine Annual Fine Arts Scholarship

A scholarship will be provided for a student majoring in theatre, art or music.

J. Lewis & Helen J. Hammitt Annual Music

An annual scholarship will be provided for a Music major with an instrument emphasis in keyboard. Second preference will be given to a student majoring in voice. The music faculty shall make recipient selection.

Charles & Doris Harrington Family

A scholarship will be provided for students who are Music Education majors with an emphasis in Instrumental Music. Recipients must have at least a 3.0 GPA.

Cara Kisicki Memorial

A scholarship is provided for a full-time, undergraduate non-Music major who is participating as a member of the CSC Band. The recipient must have at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA and demonstrate financial need.

CSC Minority Endowed

A scholarship will be provided for a student who is a person of color defined as Asian, African-American, Hispanic or Native American. Preference will be given to students majoring in Music or participating in instrumental/vocal ensembles. The student must send an audition cassette tape with his/her application to the Chair of the Visual and Performing Arts Department.

Leonard E. & Mary Carpenter Paulson Memorial

A scholarship will be provided for a Fine Arts major, with preference given to a student majoring in Voice.

Music Performance Annual Scholarship

A scholarship will be provided for a student with a major or minor in Music. The recipient shall have a GPA of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale. The CSC music faculty will make the selection.

James & Genevieve Sommers

A scholarship is provided for a full-time student majoring in Music. Student must be able to demonstrate financial need and have a GPA of 2.5 or above.

A scholarship will be provided for a full- or part-time student majoring in Psychology and/or Guidance and Counseling. The recipient should have a GPA of 3.0 or better.

A scholarship will be made available to any college level student, including Graduate. The recipient shall be majoring in the area of Psychology or Counseling and have maintained a High School or college GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

Social Science Scholarships

Donald E. & Elenor Green Liberal Arts Endowed

A scholarship will be provided to a student majoring in one of the Language and Literature or Social Science degree programs. The recipient shall have a GPA of 3.5 or above.

Dr. George Morgan

A scholarship will be awarded annually to a student interested in Geography, Natural Science, Anthropology, History, the culture of Native Americans and other cultures.

The Allen & Sara Shepherd History Scholarship

A scholarship will be awarded annually to a student interested in History. Application materials may be secured from Dr. Joel Hyer at any time after the beginning of the spring semester. The completed application must be returned by March 1. The Committee will determine the recipient based on Dr. Joel Hyer's recommendation. Half of the award will be given the first week of fall semester; the second half will be given the first week of spring semester.

Virginia Speich Endowed

A scholarship will be provided for a History or Secondary Social Science major. Recipients must have an ACT score of 18 or above and have graduated in the top one-half of their graduating class. First preference will be given to incoming freshmen.

Watson Justice Studies

A scholarship will be given to a student majoring in Pre-Law, Criminal Justice or Legal Studies. The recipient must have an ACT score of 18 or above and have at least a 2.5 GPA.

Barbara Barnes Memorial

An award shall be provided for a student majoring in Music Education or Speech/Theatre. The faculty of Music and Speech/Theatre shall select recipient.

CSC Theatre Assistantships

The Theatre Program at CSC awards a number of Assistantships to students who plan to or who currently major in Theatre. These Assistantships are awarded on the basis of ability in Theatre, more than on financial need. Theatre Assistantships will be awarded from the following sources: Tuition Waivers, Memorial Scholarships, Foundation Assistantships, Fine Arts Assistantships.
