Essential Studies - Students are members of a broader society dependent on their meaningful contributions for its success. The Essential Studies Program at Chadron State provides an integrated, coherent learning experience to prepare students for a life of responsible inquiry.
FYI - Part of the new Essential Studies Program is the First Year Inquiry (FYI) requirement. FYI courses help students develop the inquiry skills (critical thinking/ research communication …) All new students are required to take six credit hours of FYI. The six credit format allows time for an in depth exploration of the issue or problem presented in the course, so student can go beyond learning just the basic facts to a deeper understanding of the issue or problem. Each FYI course has a different theme, offering students the opportunity to choose an issue or problem of interest to them and not necessarily in line with their major.
