Fossil Turtles

Is there more than just loose soil and scattered rocks here? Move your cursor over the image to see the cross-sections of two fossils. We often find turtles in close proximity. We don't yet know why.
The sizes of turtles vary. Some would fit in the palm of your hand. Others, like this one, would fill a wheelbarrow.
Fossil poaching is a problem at Toadstool Park. At the researcher's feet is a depression where a turtle fossil has been illegally removed. The information this turtle could have provided to the scientists has been lost forever.
Some turtles are found to be completely "exploded."
Occasionally turtles are found intact and make their way into a museum display.
