Fort Hays State outmuscles CSC

HAYS, Kan. – The Fort Hays State wrestling team won its eighth consecutive dual and remained unbeaten in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference by turning back Chadron State 45-0 Friday in Hays, Kan.

With the win, Fort Hays State, ranked 15th in the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association rankings, improves to 9-3 on the season and 7-0 in the RMAC.

On Friday, Fort Hays State opened with two forfeit victories at 125 and 133 pounds and followed with two pins at 141 and 149 pounds to pull away.

The Eagles didn’t go away, though, as Brian Easterling and Justin Dekok forced two nationally-ranked Fort Hays wrestlers earn hard fought victories. Danny Grater, who is ranked fourth at 157, claimed a 3-0 decision, while No. 7 Blake Malloy eked out a 2-0 decision over Dekok at 165.

Chadron State’s Duke Eardley and Sam Udell also competed well. Eardley lost a 4-1 decision to Steve Kyler at 197 and Udell fell short in a 3-2 decision to Justin Glenn at heavyweight.

It was Udell’s first competition since he injured his leg in December.

Chadron State (3-11, 0-8 RMAC) will host New Mexico Highlands Sunday at 3 p.m. in their final dual of the season. Following the dual, the Eagles’ Booster Club is hosting a post-match gathering at Country Kitchen in Chadron.
