Jan 16, 2010

Chadron State's Lance Jeffries wrestles Colorado School of Mines' Dylan Lewis during their match at 141 pounds. Jeffries won by a 10-4 decision.
CHADRON – The Colorado School of Mines wrestling team won six of 10 matches, including four in a row, to earn a 24-16 victory over Chadron State Saturday evening at the Nelson Physical Activity Center.
Colorado School of Mines is now 1-4 overall and 1-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
Chadron State, which has been plagued by injuries all season long, falls to 1-3 and 0-3 in the conference.
The dual started well for Chadron State as Cody Vasconcellos had over four minutes of riding time during his 18-1 technical fall over Ryan Swanson at 174 pounds. However, Mines captured the early momentum and won the next four matches to jump out to an 18-5 lead.
Ryan Fillingame got the Eagles back on the board after his 20-5 technical fall over Kyle McMinn at 133, and Lance Jeffries followed with a 10-4 decision over Dylan Lewis at 141. Jeffries, a freshman from Loveland, Colo., trailed 2-1 after the first period but controlled the final two periods to earn his first career dual victory.
The Orediggers responded again, though, and Austin Cordova earned a 7-5 decision over Chadron State’s Jake Lords at 149 in overtime.
CSC’s Brian Easterling added a 6-2 decision over Mike Brown at 157, but Mines’ Jordan Larsen sealed the dual victory in the final match with his 9-4 decision over Justin Dekok at 165.
The Eagles will be back in action Thursday at Dickinson State.
