CSU-Pueblo wrestlers nip Chadron State
Jan 8, 2010
PUEBLO, Colo. – The Chadron State wrestling team won five of its final eight matches, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Colorado State University-Pueblo as the ThunderWolves continued their hot start to the season, claiming a 24-21 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference dual victory Friday evening.
The ThunderWolves are the top team in the RMAC, owning a 3-0 record against conference teams. Chadron State falls to 1-1 overall and 0-1 in the RMAC.
The ThunderWolves started fast, owning an 11-0 lead after the first two matches, but the Eagles won three of the next four matches.
Brian Easterling got CSC started by pinning Dalton Harrington at 157 pounds and freshman Jeremy Fillingame notched his first career dual win in an 8-6 decision over Kellen Desmond. Chris Leak followed with a 10-3 decision over Adam Carey at 184, but Pueblo got back on the winning track after receiving a forfeit at 197 and a decision at heavyweight.
The Eagles ended the dual on a positive note, though, as Dustin Stodola won by forfeit at 125 and Ryan Fillingame claimed an 8-1 decision over Markus Portillos at 133.
Stodola and Ryan Fillingame, both freshmen, lead the Eagles in victories this season. Stodola is 14-4 and Fillingame has a 13-4 record.
Chadron State will host two RMAC duals next week at the Nelson Physical Activity Center, beginning with Adams State on Thursday. The Eagles will also host Colorado School of Mines on Saturday. Both duals begin at 7 p.m.
