CHADRON - The Chadron State College wrestling team will launch its home schedule by hosting Northern State in a dual at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Nelson Physical Activity Center.

The Eagles, who have no seniors and only two juniors on this year’s roster, competed in open tournaments at the University of Wyoming and the University of Nebraska-Omaha in November.

Coach Scott Ritzen said CSC will likely be without junior standout Jimmy Savala at 141 pounds. He has both a sore thumb and a stiff back after placing second at Wyoming and fourth at UNO, both in the elite division.

Hagan Guzman, a sophomore from Scottsbluff, will probably take Savala’s spot in the lineup.

Ritzen said the Eagles expect to fill all the weight classes, although a couple of the probable starters have seen only limited practice time because of injuries they sustained prior to the season or at the Cowboy Open at the University of Wyoming.

Chadron State’s probable starters besides Guzman are Dustin Stodola, 125 pounds; Ryan Fillingame, 133; Lance Jeffries, 149; Brian Easterling, 157; Justin Dekok, 165; Chris Leak, 174; Zac Sweeney, 197; and Sam Udell, heavyweight.

Udell is a junior, Easterling and Sweeney are sophomores, Dekok and Leak are redshirt freshmen and Stodola, Jeffries and the Fillingame brothers  are true freshmen.

Northern State edged the Eagles 21-20 in a dual in Aberdeen in early December a year ago, when CSC was shorthanded after several team members had been injured in an automobile wreck south of Cheyenne, Wyo.

In 2007-08, CSC prevailed 26-15 in Chadron. The teams also met at the National Duals in 2006-07 with the Eagles winning 41-0.

Both CSC and Northern were sixth in their conferences’ preseason polls. The Wolves belong to the Northern Sun Conference. The Eagles are in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
