Nebraska Student Information System (NeSIS) Project Update
February 22, 2010 Issue #5
CSC NeSIS e-News is produced each week to notify the campus of important announcements and progress that is being made with the new PeopleSoft based student information system, aka NeSIS. Previous versions of eNews are archived on the CSC NeSIS Website, http://www.csc.edu/nesis/updates.csc
Financial Aid Self Service is Live in the new MyCSC PeopleSoft portal! The Financial Aid Office has sent EagleMail messages notifying students of "Missing Information" and students are able to access the details from the new PeopleSoft portal. A tutorial is being developed and will be accessible from the NeSIS student web page, http://www.csc.edu/nesis/student/
The PeopleSoft Data Warehouse is Live! The data warehouse is a repository populated with data from the PeopleSoft environment and will be the primary source for reporting. As data is added to the PeopleSoft environments through migration of data from legacy systems and normal operational functions such as course registration, the data will be imported into the data warehouse.
Conversion efforts are focusing on Transfer Credit and subsequent runs for bio/demo, enrollment history, and course schedules.
MyCSC, the PeopleSoft portal, is being prepared to support faculty access.
Preparations for Faculty training continue. Faculty trainers will participate in training on March 2nd and will be trained by Jill Steinborn, the Cedar Crestone Record and Registration Consultant who has been working with the NSCS Registrars. Faculty designated as trainers are Dawn Brammer, Mary Jo Carnot, Phil Cary, Terri Haynes, Kim Huckfeldt, Rhea Jost, Denna Kennell, Joy Omelanuk, Aaron Prestwich, Wendy Waugh, and Ottley Wright. After training, the trainers will have time to familiarize themselves with the environment before faculty training kicks off.
Faculty and Students will be affected by a Student Information System Outage from 4:00 July 30th through August 1st. During this time, access to the current and new student information systems to enter and view summer grades, enroll in courses, etc will be unavailable. The outage is necessary to convert financial balances from the current to the new student information system. More information will be provided as the conversion process proceeds.
A Go-Live schedule has been developed and is provided by clicking on the MyCSC link on the CSC home page. The numerous services offered in PeopleSoft will be phased in according to the NeSIS project schedule. As services go-live, the Service name in the chart will be changed into a link. E-mail notices will also be issued to employees and to students. As the NeSIS project progresses additional services will be added to the chart.
All faculty and staff will have access to PeopleSoft. Staff accounts will be issued as individuals are trained to work in the PeopleSoft environment. Faculty accounts will be issued in February just prior to the go-live of the faculty portal and associated training sessions.
Because the NeSIS project involves seven State of Nebraska college and university campuses sharing a common authentication system, a new, unique ID is required for access to the PeopleSoft environment. The new ID is printed on CSC ID cards issued beginning with the fall 2009 term.
All faculty and staff should have a new CSC ID card issued as of the beginning of the fall 2009 term. If you are in need of a new ID card, please contact Janet Hartman in Crites Hall room 110.
From February 1st until late August, current and prospective on-campus students should contact the CSC Admissions Office for changes to their address, phone number, and marital status. Providing these changes to the college will ensure that contact information is consistent and updated. For a short time, CSC will be doing business in both the current and new student information systems so it is important that accurate data is in both databases. Students will once again be able to make these changes themselves when the current student information system is retired and the new system is fully live!
