Jay named to RMAC All-Academic First Team; Ritzen, Townsend also honored

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Chadron State’s Angela Jay has been named to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference All-Academic First Team and Nikki Ritzen and Stephanie Townsend were placed on the second team.

Jay, a senior from Victoria, British Columbia, has a 3.89 grade point average while majoring in physical education and health.

To qualify for all-academic teams, student-athletes must have a GPA of 3.30 or better, be a starter or reserve, and completed two consecutive semesters or three quarters at their current institution.

Jay, who has started every game in her CSC career, is having a stellar season. She’s had 16 multi hit games this season and is hitting .345. She’s among the RMAC leaders in doubles and has thrown out nine runners from center field.

Ritzen, a junior from Chadron with a 3.73 GPA in business administration, is also having a banner year. She just wrapped up a school record 20-game hitting streak and is batting .338 this season. She’s also hit four triples and has had at least two hits in 13 games.

Townsend, a senior from Roosevelt, Utah, has a 3.79 GPA in elementary education. She’s proven to be an all-around player, hitting .288 and earning seven wins at pitcher. She leads the team with a 4.26 earned run average and has struck out 76 batters.

Two other CSC softball players earned honorable mention. They are Amy Schartz of Brady and Katelyn McBeth of Surrey, British Columbia.

The RMAC All-Academic Player of the Year is Stephanie Janes of Fort Lewis.
