CHADRON – Two wrestlers from Wyoming and one each from Nebraska and Idaho have agreed to wrestle at Chadron State College, head coach Scott Ritzen announced Tuesday.
All four wrestlers who signed with the Eagles won state titles during the winter.
Bart Miller of Valentine, Jace Johnson of Boise, Idaho, Bobby West of Cody, Wyo., and Reed Burgener of Douglas, Wyo., join four other incoming wrestlers at Chadron State – Zach Denney, Bryce Wiedeman, Derek Pollock and Alex Klopp – who signed during the early signing period in November.
“We really feel like we have added some great wrestlers to our program,” Ritzen said. “We’re excited to see how they progress at this level and we’re excited to get to work.”
Miller, who is projected to wrestle at 125 pounds at CSC, had a solid career for the Badgers. He won a state title this winter after finishing third as a junior. He is the all-time leader in pins at Valentine High and he had a career record of 117-27.
Johnson, another wrestler projected at 125, also won a state title his senior season. He placed two other times at the state tournament for Centennial High in Boise and in 2011 he was ranked 20th in the nation in freestyle and Greco Roman wrestling. He finished high school with a prep career of 107-27.
Both Wyoming recruits were two-time state champions.
West, who will most likely wrestle at 133 or 141 for the Eagles, was a two-time all-state choice and won two state championships in a row. He concluded his career with a record of 119-49.
Burgener is projected to compete at 149 or 157 pounds. He never finished worse than third place at the Wyoming State Championship and lost just 10 matches his final two years of high school when he claimed back-to-back state titles. In all, he finished with a record of 162-37. He won a majority of his matches by pinning his opponents, finishing with 118 to set a Douglas High record.
Including the recent additions, the Eagles have now signed eight wrestlers for the 2012-13 season. The four who committed in November also had successful senior campaigns.
Denney, a senior at North Platte who will wrestle at 141 pounds, became a four-time place winner at the Nebraska State Tournament and won a state title in February.
Wiedeman, a senior at Mitchell who is projected to wrestle at 157, is a three-time state qualifier and was a two-time runner-up.
Pollock, a senior from Ainsworth, was all-state honorable mention in 2011 and qualified for the state tournament this winter.
Klopp, who is from Yuma, Colo., and is expected to wrestle at 133, was a state champ in Wyoming in 2009 and became a four-time state qualifier during the winter. His older brother, Bret, wrestled at 174 pounds for CSC last season.
