CHADRON – The Chadron State College softball team still has plenty to play for in the final weeks of the season and they’ll have the luxury of hosting eight of their final 10 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference games at home.
The Eagles (14-27, 11-19 RMAC) will host Colorado State University-Pueblo (22-12, 20-10 RMAC) in a four-game tilt, beginning with a double-dip Saturday at noon. The two squads will play another doubleheader Sunday at 11 a.m.
Chadron State will then play two games at Black Hills State on Wednesday, April 18, before hosting Metro State in the final regular season series April 21.
Pueblo enters this weekend as the top team in the conference. The ThunderWolves, along with Colorado Mesa and Fort Lewis, are the only teams in the RMAC to reach 20 victories.
A big reason for Pueblo’s solid conference record is its pitching staff. Justine Bosio is 12-4 and has thrown 13 complete games, while Marissa Reyes and Shannon Traxinger each have four wins.
The ThunderWolves are also outhitting their foes (.347 to .298) and have scored 67 more runs.
Seven regular starters are hitting at least .330 for Pueblo, led by Brittany Styger’s average of .426.
Chadron State split a two-game series with No. 22 Augustana Tuesday in South Dakota. It was the second straight year the Eagles have defeated a ranked foe.
