Dr. Stephen Pyne, fire ecologist and faculty member at Arizona State University, will speak at Chadron State College on Wednesday, April 11. The presentation will be in the CSC Student Center at 7 p.m.
Dr. Chuck Butterfield, chairman of CSC’s Department of Applied Sciences, said Pyne is “the name” in fire, especially as it relates to ponderosa pine forests.
Pyne is working on a project about the effects of fire in the Great Plains. He’s also working on the books “Between Two Fires: A fire History of North America, 1960-2011,” and “To the Last Smoke.”
He also has authored “Fire: A Brief History,” and “America’s Fires. A Historical Context for Policy and Practice.”
The presentation, which is open to the public free of charge, is sponsored by the CSC Ag Club and the rangeland management program.
