Several Chadron State throwers placed high Wednesday at the Yellow Jackets Open Track and Field Meet at Black Hills State in Spearfish.
Sophomore Alyssa Norton of Rushville won both the women’s shot put and discus. She shoved the shot 42-1 ½ and sailed the discus 152-5. Both throws were considerably farther than her marks at the Colorado State-Pueblo Meet, where the Eagles opened the season on March 24.
Two more CSC women, Brittney Graham and Cyndi Thomas, also took part in the meet.
Graham was third in both the shot and the hammer throw while Thomas was second in the hammer throw and fourth in the shot put. Both Thomas and Graham threw the hammer 134-4 on the English scale, but Thomas edged her teammate by two millimeters on the metric chart.
Also competing at Black Hills was Cody Hunt, who won the shot put with a throw of 57-1, and was second with in the discus at 150-5. Hunt improved his own school record in the shot to 59-7 at the Pueblo meet. His discus mark on Wednesday was his career best.
A handful of CSC athletes also participated at Air Force. Stacee Craig, a senior from Powell, Wyo., placed fourth with 3,838 points in the heptathlon and won the javelin and long jump.
Elizabeth Ellicott also competed, finishing seventh.
In the decathlon, CSC’s Hunter Dittbenner took fifth.
The entire CSC team is participating in the Fort Hays State Quadrangular at Hays, Kan., this weekend.
