It’s going to be a busy week for the Chadron State College softball team. The Eagles will host Black Hills State Wednesday in a doubleheader and turn around for a four-game series with Colorado Mesa, beginning Saturday.
The twin bill with the Yellow Jackets is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday’s doubleheader with the Mavericks begins at noon and Sunday’s games start at 11 a.m.
Black Hills State, which is in its first season in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, is 5-20 overall and 4-14 in the league. The Yellow Jackets haven’t won a conference series yet but they split with Colorado Mesa and earned victories over Adams State and Fort Lewis.
Kelsie Chambers is batting .349 to lead the BHSU offense, while four others are hitting at least .314.
Katie Wagner is the Jackets’ top pitcher. She’s won four of their five games and has struck out 74 batters in 86 innings.
Colorado Mesa is one of the hottest teams in the conference. The Mavs have won six of their last seven games and have moved into fourth place in the RMAC (17-11, 15-9 RMAC).
The Eagles are 9-20 overall and 7-13 in the RMAC. They’re currently in 12th place but are just two games out of ninth.
