CHADRON – Chadron State’s Katie Londo hit a walk-off single that drove in Brittany Chacon to lift the Eagles to a 7-6 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference victory over Regis Monday afternoon.

The Eagles (6-11, 4-4 RMAC) didn’t have any late fireworks in the second game, losing 4-2.

In the first game, Chadron State loaded the bases and then jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Stephanie Townsend started the scoring with an RBI single that scored Angela Jay. Amy Schartz, who later hit a solo home run in the third inning, drew a walk and Katelyn McBeth followed with a 2-run double.

Regis, now 2-12, 1-3 in the RMAC, didn’t go away, though, and scratched across two runs in the fifth and added four more in the sixth to take a 6-5 lead.

The Eagles responded in the bottom of the seventh. Rebecca Wetsch led off the frame with a pinch hit single and Nikki Ritzen advanced Amanda Einspahr, who was pinch running for Wetsch, to second base after a sacrifice bunt.

Chacon took advantage of Ritzen’s sacrifice and doubled to center field to score Einspahr. Jay, who went 3-for-4, then singled through the left side to put runners at the corners before Londo blasted her game-winning single.

Aleesa Olsen, who pitched 1 2/3 innings of relief, earned the win for Chadron State. She struck out one and didn’t allow a hit.

In the second game, Regis scored two runs in the top of the first and added one more in the second and fifth innings to pull away in its 4-2 decision.

Jay and Londo once again paced the Chadron State offense. Both finished with 2-for-3, with Londo driving in two runs off two doubles.

Regis’ Cassie Long hit a 2-run double and Sydney Gaffin pitched four innings, allowing just three hits, to earn the win.

Chadron State’s Stephanie Townsend suffered the loss. In 4 1/3 innings, she scattered nine hits and struck out two.

Chadron State will play at Colorado School of Mines Saturday and Sunday.
