CHADRON – Led by senior Vanessa Leeper Jones, who had game-high totals of 22 points and 12 rebounds, Nebraska-Kearney closed its schedule Saturday night with an 84-59 victory over Chadron State in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference basketball game.
The Lopers shot 31 of 63 from the field and 19 of 22 from the line while scoring 42 points in each half.
For the Eagles, it was one of those games that plagued them often this season. They got good looks, but could not make the ball drop. They were just 17 of 53 from the field and 22 of 35 from the free throw line.
Kearney, which finishes the season at 8-19 overall and 8-14 in the RMAC, led all the way. The Lopers were ahead 42-28 at halftime and were on top by at least 13 the entire second half.
A 5-foot-10 forward, Jones was nine of 13 from the field and made all four of her free throws. The Lopers also got 14 points from Tessa Kreutzer and 11 from Lea Ann Jameson.
The visitors enjoyed a 45-27 rebounding bulge.
The only seniors on the Chadron State roster, Kaitlin Petri and Kada Williams, finished with 13 and 10 points, respectively, to lead their team.
The Eagles, who won 64-60 at Kearney in early January, finish at 8-18 for the season and 8-14 in the conference.
