Western State wrestlers turn back CSC, 28-9

GUNNISON, Colo. – Western State wrestlers won eight matches en route to its 28-9 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference victory over Chadron State Friday night in Gunnison, Colo.

The Eagles, who defeated Colorado Mesa University Thursday, had a tough start and end to their dual Friday. The Mountaineers started the match-up with five straight decisions and then added a major decision, a forfeit at 197 pounds and a final decision in overtime at heavyweight.

Mikah Kadera supplied the Eagles’ first win at 165 pounds when he earned a 3-2 decision over Cody Frankum.

Jordan Debus followed with another highlight for Chadron State at 184 pounds when he pinned Kyle Piatt late in the third period. Debus is now 9-4 on the season and has pinned four of his foes.

Chadron State (4-5, 1-3 RMAC) will dual Northern Colorado Saturday, Jan. 28.
