SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State women’s basketball team ended the first half with a 27-12 scoring burst and three players scored in double figures in the Yellowjackets’ 68-55 victory over Chadron State Tuesday in Spearfish, S.D.
Jordan Kent scored 18 points and Kristi Ryan and Dakota Barrie each added 11 to help the Yellowjackets even their record at 2-2.
Black Hills State led the entire game but took control of the game after hitting three straight 3-pointers that turned its early 12-11 lead into a 10-point advantage midway through the first half. They led by double digits the remainder of the game.
Dallas Shaw, a freshman from Buffalo, Wyo., led the Eagles with 18 points. She hit seven of 14 from the field, including four 3-pointers. Sadie Waugh scored nine points and had a team-high six rebounds and Marla Munsen scored seven.
Both teams struggled from the field – CSC hit 19 of 61 attempts (31.1 percent), while Black Hills sank 22 of 57 (38.6 percent). However, the hosts made 21 of 29 free throws compared to 11 of 19 for CSC.
Chadron State, now 0-4 on the season, will play at Colorado Mesa University on Friday, Dec. 2. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
