CHADRON – Four Colorado Mesa players had at least 12 kills to help lift the Mavericks to a tight 24-26, 25-18, 25-20, 25-21 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference victory over Chadron State Saturday at Armstrong Gymnasium.
All four sets were close. The two squads were tied 31 separate times, while the lead changed hands on 17 occasions.
The Eagles (5-19, 0-12 RMAC) played well in the defeat. They hit .123 as a team and posted 12 total blocks.
However, it wasn’t enough to overcome Mesa’s (8-14, 3-9 RMAC) balanced offense. Kelly Regimbal had a match-high 16 kills, Haleigh Higgins chipped in 14, Rachael Beaty added 13 and Antoinette McCormick finished with 12.
As a team, the Mavericks hit .185 and Jordyn Moody set 51 assists.
The Eagles’ offense was also balanced. Mallory Irvine led CSC with 10 kills and two solo blocks, Brenna Jungck finished with nine kills and Mollie Jones had seven and 12 digs.
Defensively, Kristina Harter finished with a team-high 21 digs. Joining her with double-digit digs was Alyssa Bauer, who finished with 13 to go along with her 36 set assists.
Chadron State will play at Nebraska-Kearney on Tuesday before hosting Colorado Christian Friday. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
