Foundation going public with campaign

September 29, 2009

The Chadron State Foundation will officially kick off the public portion of its first-ever multi-million-dollar fund-raising campaign during a ceremony Friday in the Student Center.

Vision 2011 is a five-year campaign by the Chadron State Foundation to help boost its capital, endowments and annual fund. About $4 million of the funds will be used for two capital projects: the construction of the new Rangeland Agriculture Center and Pavilion, and the Events Center. The latter will be created from the renovation and expansion of the Ross Armstrong Physical Education Building.

The Foundation will use $5 million to boost its endowments, to assist with everything from scholarships and equipment to student and faculty support. The remaining $2 million will be raised through the annual fall drive and phonathon to provide immediate support to campus.

The Events Center will be a 94,000-square-foot addition to the Armstrong Building, which originally opened in 1964. The project also calls for renovation of the existing portion of the building.

The Rangeland Agriculture Center and Pavilion will feature spaces to help the institution expand its programs for rangeland and agriculture. An indoor arena will help the rodeo team and animal science offerings reach their potential.

Friday’s event will mark the beginning of the campaign’s public phase. Foundation employees, college personnel and volunteers have been laying groundwork for the campaign since the foundation board of trustees approved the project in May 2005. Joining the Foundation for Friday’s invitation-only gala event will be members of the National Campaign Leadership Council, a 100-member group of alumni and supporters from across the nation that was formed to provide leadership and advice to the campaign.

“Most exciting is what the success of this campaign will do for the students in the region Chadron State College serves,” said NCLC co-chairman Randy Bauer of Chadron. “Vision 2011 equips CSC with the improvements needed to provide our youth from western Nebraska and the surrounding area with the college education they deserve.”
