Eagle golfers finish seventh at opening tourney

SCOTTSBLUFF – Sparked by Allison Rowden’s two-day total of 163, the Chadron State College women’s golf team finished the first Rocky Mountain Invitational of 2008 with a score of 697 to claim seventh place on Tuesday at Scotts Bluff Country Club.

Rowden, a freshman from Broken Bow, followed the 81 she shot on Monday with an 82 during the final round Tuesday to claim fifth place.

Montana State University-Billings won the team title with 668, just edging Western New Mexico’s score of 679. Fort Hays State was third with 680 and Mesa State was fourth with 686. Nebraska-Kearney was fifth with 687. Colorado State University-Pueblo fired a 695 to finish sixth, Regis shot a 703 to finish eighth, Adams State was ninth with 715 and Colorado Christian shot a 753 to finish in tenth place. The Chadron State B Team, consisting of Michelle Haynes, Heather Lutter, Amanda Watts and Kirsten Fochert, combined to shoot a 917.

While Rowden certainly sparkled during her first collegiate meet, other CSC team members had solid performances. Sophomore Alissa Peterson shot an 82 on Tuesday to finish with a 173 for 20th place. Sophomores Sam Hanson and Caitlin Parker also had good tourneys. Hanson shot a 180 and Parker finished with 181. Also for CSC, Ashley Kurtz finished with a 198.

The Eagles will be back on the links Sunday at the Mesa State Invitational.
