CHADRON – A free, public seminar featuring Dr. Tim Elmore on leadership development will be Thursday, Sept. 29, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Student Center Ballroom.
Elmore’s presentation, "Habitudes of Leadership Development,” is sponsored by the students enrolled in Survival Skills 101 (FYI 169x) taught by Dr. Kim Madsen.
Madsen emphasized the program is a service learning class project.
“The students are learning to serve and serving to learn by bringing speakers of this caliber to campus,” she said.
Elmore is a leading authority on how to understand the next generation and prepare tomorrow's leaders. He is a best-selling author who has written more than 32 books and founder and president of Growing Leaders, a nonprofit leadership training and development company. The Habitudes curriculum has been used with more than 8,000 organizations around the world.
Since founding Growing Leaders in 2003, he has spoken to more than 500,000 students and staff on hundreds of campuses across the country. He has also taught courses on leadership and mentoring at nine universities and graduate schools across the U.S. and provided leadership training and resources for the National FFA Organization and major athletic programs.
Madsen, who has heard Elmore present before, has used his books and DVDs in her classes for several years. Students enrolled in Survival Skills 101 this fall will be using his book as a resource.
“Students in other classes have commented on how helpful the information was so in January I contacted Dr. Elmore to see if he would be willing and able to come to CSC. I hope the audience is inspired by his enthusiasm, passion for understanding the uniqueness of each generation and tolerance for others,” Madsen said.
