TORRINGTON, Wyo. - Six Chadron State College contestants placed among the top four in the averages of their events at the Eastern Wyoming College rodeo in Torrington over the weekend.
CSC entries earned a first, three seconds, a third and a fourth in the final placing.
The first was in goat tying where Shaylee Hance of Circle, Mont., placed third in the opening go-round in 7.3 seconds and won the championship go-round on Sunday in 7.0 seconds.
Another CSC cowgirl, Shelby Winchell of Scottsbluff, was the runner-up in goat tying. She was fourth in the first go-round in 7.4 seconds and third in the second session in 7.3 seconds.
Also placing second in their events were barrel racer Katie Loughran of Broken Bow and steer wrestler Kelby Bond of Avondale, Colo.
Loughran and her paint horse won the first go-round of the barrels in 15.65 seconds. They placed fifth in the final go-round in 16.14 seconds but still took second in the averages.
Bond tied for seventh on his first run in the steer wrestling in 9.1 seconds, but was second on Sunday in 6.8 seconds and second overall.
Another CSC steer wrestler, Russell Hipke of Stuart, also had a time of 9.1 seconds in the first go-round. He completed his second run in 7.8 seconds to place third in both the go-round and the averages.
Amy Deichert of Spearfish, S.D., placed fourth in the barrels with times of 15.80 and 16.16 seconds. She finished fourth on her first run and sixth in the finals go-round.
The next rodeo in the Central Rocky Mountain Region will be Friday, Saturday and Sunday, April 11-13 at Colorado State University in Fort Collins.
