Chadron State College is preparing for its first semi-annual symposium, “The Meeting of the Minds.” The showcase of students’ scholarly posters and presentations will take place on the second floor of the Reta E. King library 1 p.m. – 7 p.m., Dec. 3 – 5.
The symposium is an opportunity for students to publicly present their work and provides an opportunity for feedback from professionals and peers, according to Dr. Lee Miller, one of the event organizers. Each hour-long session will contain a question and answer segment with the audience.
A variety of formats will be included in the symposium such as poster presentations, oral presentations, and lectures presented by the students participating. About 50-60 presentations will be made by 125 students involved. The remaining students will have work on display.
Multiple disciplines will be represented such English and humanities, political science, physical science, communications arts and justice studies.
The purpose of the symposium is to provide an outlet for students to illustrate what they have learned in their classes. It also works as a way for students to display their work outside of the classroom and keeps them engaged in their learning beyond graded assignments.
Submissions for the symposium came from student work in the following classes: Nation and The Globe, Intro to Public Relations, Public Relations Case Studies, Theory and Practice of Literary Criticism, Physical Science Capstone, Composition I, Composition II, New Media, Survival Skills 101, Introduction to Mass Media, Editing and Design, The Judiciary and Constitutional Law.
“The campus and community are encouraged to attend the event and show their support,” Miller said.
An outline of the presentations can be seen online at csc.edu/documents/announcements/MeetingofMindsProgram.pdf.
