Forecast causes reconsideration of homecoming parade, 5K postponement

October 3, 2013

Due to safety concerns triggered by winter weather warnings issued for the Chadron area, student, faculty and staff representatives from the Homecoming Committee met with CSC president Randy Rhine early Thursday afternoon to review homecoming events scheduled for Friday and Saturday.

A decision about whether or not to cancel the homecoming parade will be made before noon Friday and announced on the CSC website, Facebook, Twitter and through local media outlets.

The Eagle 5K Run, originally planned for Saturday morning, has been rescheduled to Oct. 30 in combination with the HPER Club’s traditional Haunted Trails run, according to Chris Green, Nelson Physical Activity Center coordinator.

Modifications to other homecoming events may also be considered in light of weather developments.

The forecast for Friday includes snow with areas of blowing snow. Temperature falling to around 29 degrees by 7a.m. Windy, with a north wind 25 to 30 mph and gusts possibly as high as 45 mph. The chance of precipitation is 100 percent. A new snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches is possible with an additional snowfall of 2 to 4 inches possible Friday night.
