Bailey McLean, an 18 year old Chadron State College freshman from Sheridan, Wyo., was crowned 2013 Miss Chadron State College Rodeo Sept. 20.
She is a pre-medicine major with a focus in radiology. McLean was the 2013 Sheridan, Wyo. Rodeo Senior Princess, Reserve Champion Sheridan County Showman, and the 2012 Sheridan County Fair All-Around Showman.
McLean said she has been riding horses since she can remember. She trained her first barrel horse at the age of 12. She shows in American Quarter Horse Association shows and truly loves the sport of rodeo and horses.
McLean, said, “I was very interested in joining the rodeo team but had to sell my horse. Being crowned the CSC Rodeo Queen will be an amazing way to represent CSC in a way that I love.”
To participate in the horsemanship portion of the competition, she rode a borrowed horse from southwest of the CSC campus to the Dawes County fairgrounds, a distance of about two miles because she didn’t have access to a trailer, demonstrating McLean’s “can do” mentality.
She also competed in a style show, speech contest and media interview as well as a private interview with the three judges.
Jon Hansen, interim vice president of enrollment management and marketing, said “We are excited about the return of traditions such as the Chadron State Rodeo Queen. Bailey McLean is an exceptional student and a wonderful ambassador for Chadron State College. I am confident that her reign will provide unique and valuable opportunities for both Bailey and Chadron State College.”
