COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Sean McGowan and Kaitlin Petri are the recipients of Chadron State College’s Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference’s Honor Student-Athlete Awards for 2011-12.
The awards are given for outstanding achievement in both academics and athletics. The RMAC annually recognizes one male and one female athlete from each of its member institutions with the student-athlete awards. The names of the CSC honorees are placed on a banner in Armstrong Gymnasium.
Both McGowan and Petri were stellar team leaders and students.
McGowan, a senior from Lakewood, Colo., and a two-time Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference second team selection, was a three-year starter at center who postponed medical school admission to play his final year at Chadron State in 2011. McGowan, who started 33 consecutive games, including two at left tackle, has a 3.90 GPA in biology.
Petri, a senior from Kearney who has a 3.95 GPA in business administration and was recently named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball All-Academic Player of the Year, is the first Academic All-American in women’s basketball program history.
Petri, who finished her career as the 10th leading scorer in school history with 957 points, led the Eagles by averaging 16.5 points, 6.7 rebounds, three assists and nearly one block and one steal per game last season.
