Norton throws at national meet

PUEBLO, Colo. – Chadron State College sophomore Alyssa Norton of Rushville finished 14th among the 19 entries in the women’s discus throw Friday evening at the NCAA Division II National Track and Field Championships in Pueblo, Colo.

Norton’s best throw was 143 feet, 2 inches. It took 151-10 to reach the finals.

The discus was won by Calista Lyon of Cal State-Los Angeles with a mark of 179-6. Sam Lockhart of Grand Valley State of Michigan was second, just four inches shy of Lyon’s toss.

They ranked first and second going into the national meet. Lyon led at 186-6 and Lockhart had thrown 178-3.

Two more Chadron State athletes will be competing today (Saturday). Cody Hunt will begin throwing the shot at 11:30 and Jazmyn Webster will high jump at 3:30.   They have marks that rank them third and fifth in their events, respectively, entering the competition. 

Hunt has thrown 63-4 ¾ and Webster has cleared 5-9 ¾.
