CHADRON – Jeff Alcorn of Chadron was presented the Clyde Bond Memorial Award during Ivy Day at Chadron State College on Friday night.

The award is given annually to CSC upperclassmen who exemplify the leadership skills, character and athletic abilities which Bond displayed during his four years Chadron State.

Alcorn was president of Blue Key National Honor Society this past year and shared the master of ceremonies duties at Ivy Day.  He graduated Saturday with a bachelor’s degree in human biology and has been accepted to study physical therapy at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha beginning this fall.

A 2007 graduate of Chadron High, Alcorn was a four-year letterman and a regular the past three years at inside receiver for the CSC football team.

For his career, Alcorn caught 84 passes for 896 yards and seven touchdowns.  As a senior, he grabbed 33 for 383 yards and five TDS.

He also lettered as a member of the CSC basketball team in 2010-11.

His grandfather, the late Gene Alcorn, and his father, Tom Alcorn, also were athletes at CSC and both are members of the college’s Athletic Hall of Fame.  His mother, Lue, also graduated from CSC.

Bond was a native of Sheridan, Wyo., and a pitcher on the Chadron State baseball team. After graduating, he was attending a Southern Baptist seminary in Louisville, Ky., when he died on April 15, 1981 in an accident while mowing a church lawn. The award was established by family members and friends, and has been given annually.

There are now 34 recipients of the award.
