Two Eagles rank high in RMAC multi events

GUNNISON, Colo. – Two Chadron State College entries rank high at the halfway point in the multi events at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Track and Field Championships in Gunnison, Colo.

Following Sunday’s action, CSC senior Stacee Craig of Powell, Wyo., is second in the heptathlon with 2,921 points. The leader among the 15 women in the competition is Danita Wyatt of Colorado State-Pueblo with 3,052 points.

Freshman Hunter Dittbenner of Mitchell is third in the decathlon with 3,172 points. Esteban Vigil has the lead with 3,439 points. There are eight men in the decathlon.

Craig had career-best marks of 25.57 seconds in the 200 meters and 14.97 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles on Sunday, but finished second behind Wyatt in both races. Craig placed third in both the high jump at 5-1 ¾ and the shot put at 33-3 ¾.

Dittbenner had career-best marks of 51.38 seconds in the 400 and 5-9 ¾ in the high jump. He also ran the 100 meters in 11.75, long jumped 20-2 ½ and threw the shot put 33-4 ¾

The competition will resume this morning and be completed about noon, when the remainder of the conference meet will begin. The championships will run through Tuesday.

Also competing for Chadron State is Liz Ellicott of Harrison, who is 11th in the heptathlon with 2,075 points.
