Women use defense to beat Mines, 50-42

The Chadron State College defense limited the Colorado Mines women to only two field goals in the first half, sparking the Eagles to a 50-42 victory Friday night in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action in Chadron.

The Eagles led 23-12 at halftime. Mines fought back in the second half behind center Kim Good to go ahead by as many as two points, but Chadron State outscored the visitors 10-2 in the final two minutes after Good fouled out. Chadron State is now 3-12 while Mines falls to 11-5.

Good finished with a game-high 14 points, but was scoreless in the first half. Katie Cunio, who is Good’s alternate at center, was next with eight points for Mines.

Kim Petty led Chadron State with 11 points and 13 rebounds. Both Jodi Carnahan and Marie Worsham contributed 10 points.

CSC hit just 27 percent from the field while Mines made 25.5 percent.
