Welcome to Information Science & Technology
Information technology impacts nearly every aspect of life and work. The goal of the Information Management Systems major at Chadron State College will be to provide every interested student the skills necessary to be successful in information technology careers and in the advanced study of information systems. The suggested curriculum will prepare students for careers as systems analysts, systems operators, network administrators, database administrators, systems designers, systems managers, and eventually even chief information officers! Graduates of this program will possess valuable skills in three areas β technical, business, and systems. This mix of skills will set Chadron State College graduates apart from others who have primarily technical, nonbusiness, knowledge and skills. Ultimately, it is business skills that will propel graduates into upper-level management positions in technology.
The curriculum presented here follows the Model Curriculum and Guidelines for Undergraduate Degree Programs in Information Systems put forth by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), the Association for Information Systems (AIS), and the Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP). According to their master document, βAn Information Systems academic unit is typically strong in preparing students for the organizational environment. This advantage is especially strong when the IS program is within or closely tied to organization or business studies.β
