Since this office is integral to the business functions on campus (Business Office, Machines Room, Print Shop, Bookstore, Food Service) we are part of every students learning outcomes.  While the business functions do not contribute to the learning outcomes in the classroom we do figure heavily in the students overall College experience.  Our goal is to eliminate as many impediments to the learning process as is possible and to provide an inviting and safe learning atmosphere.

Conferencing

A.  Even though this unit does not have a ‘written mission statement’ the goals and objectives of the Conferencing Office contributes to an effective learning environment through meetings, workshops, and conferences. We continue to work with the different department and student groups to provide professional growth and educational opportunities.

 

The goal of the Conferencing Office is tied to the goals and mission of the College in that we encourage students, faculty, staff, and the community to attend workshops, conferences and teleconferences for professional growth and learning experiences.   The Conferencing Office also provides the students the opportunity to learn how to coordinate the different areas of meetings, workshops and conferences. 

 

B.  The Conferencing Office provides room reservations, equipment and catering to groups on and off campus for meetings, workshops and conferences.  By providing these services, we are able to provide revenue for upgrades of equipment and facilities.  We also are able to provide workshops and conferences to students, faculty, staff and the community for professional developments and a learning experience.

 

Human Resources

A.  Even though this unit does not have a ‘written mission statement’ the goals and objectives (the mission) of this unit (Custodial) is to:

·        To provide a well maintained learning atmosphere that aids in the creativity of learning opportunities for students.

·        To maintain clean facilities for students and staff.

·        To keep all facilities clean to ensure a good first impression to campus visitors, faculty and staff.

B.  A clean environment provides a safe environment for faculty, staff and students. Institutional facilities and infrastructure that is conducive to a personable and progressive learning and working environment is the goal of this department. 

 

HVAC/Boiler Plant

A.  Even though this unit does not have a ‘written mission statement’ the goals and objectives (the mission) of this unit (HVAC, Boiler House, Plumbing) is to:

·        Provide adequate heating, ventilation, and air conditioning to all buildings to provide a comfortable atmosphere in which to work and learn

·        Ensure that adequate wood chips are available to ensure continuous provision of heating and cooling to campus buildings

·        Maintain all HVAC and Boiler House equipment in working order to ensure continuous provision of heating and cooling to campus buildings

·        Ensure that all plumbing on campus is in working order

B.  Adequate and appropriate plumbing facilities, heating, cooling and air conditioning provides faculty, staff and students institutional facilities and infrastructure that is conducive to a personable and progressive learning and working environment. 

 

Maintenance

A.  One priority is to implement a computerized facilities management software program, and move the paperwork process to an online format.  Continued improvement of living and learning conditions is our next goal.  Growth of the department and staff is a third and vital step as the College looks toward growth and expansion.  The current staff will require training for all new equipment and staff will need to be added as new facilities and equipment are introduced.

B.  The Facilities Department supports the mission of the College by providing and preserving a safe physical environment that enhances the programs of the College community. Our goal is to provide the best possible customer service within the constraints of assigned resources.  The Department strives to be a professional, efficient and customer service oriented department respected by College and service region constituents.

 

Print Shop

The Print Shop gives tours and seminars to students on a regular basis as part of computer and graphics classes. The service provided is part and parcel of CSC's ability to provide a quality educational experience.

 

Safety

·        Provide a safe & healthy environment for employees, students and visitors.  By providing a safe environment, it will enhance the mission of the college.

B.  Safety is always stressed in the college environment by trainings and constant safety improvements.

 

The Safety unit constantly supports the College mission for diversity in ADA for students, staff, constituents and the region by:

·         Providing appropriate and adequate access to buildings

·         Providing accessible classrooms and bathrooms

 

The Safety unit constantly supports the College mission for a safe environment for students, staff, constituents and the region by:

·         Ensuring parking lots have adequate lighting

·         Sidewalks are clear of debris and snow and ice

 

Security

A.  Even though this unit does not have a ‘written mission statement’ the goals and objectives (the mission) of this unit (security) is to:

·        Provide a safe & environment for employees, students and visitors.  By providing a safe environment, it will enhance the mission of the college.

B.  The Security office has expanded coverage through the use of foot and bicycle        

      patrols providing the college community with a safer environment while moving about on campus. 

 

Personal safety seminars and self defense classes are provided upon request. These programs improve safety through awareness and assist the institution in meeting the goal of a safe learning environment.

 

The Safety unit constantly supports the College mission for students, staff, constituents and the region by:

·         Providing appropriate and adequate patrol of all buildings and grounds

·         Providing escorts to and from parking lots to buildings, especially at night

Business Office

A.  The Business Office provides guidance in reference to financial aid and residency questions. Tax information and forms are provided on a yearly basis.  Additionally we work with students and parents to provide payment options to continue their education at Chadron State College.

Business Services/Comptrollers Office

Our unit supports diversity by eliminating barriers to College access whether that access is do to economic factors, location factors or physical limitations.  In the Business Office we have instituted payment plans to spread the cost of education over several payments, we have initiated an online payment option that allows for the payment of student bills regardless of location and we work with the Financial Aid Office to assure that students who have not yet received their aid package are allowed to continue classes.  The bookstore has initiated a program where students may pay their bills in three payments instead of one and we strive to lessen the burden of our extended campus students by allowing the order of books online.  The food service has a program where students who have special dietary needs are given meals that comply with their medical needs.

 

Computer Services

A.  The Conferencing Office works closely with the Diversity Committee to host several events that pertain to all areas of diversity.   The Conferencing Office also supports the College mission for diversity in ADA, students, staff, constituents and the region by improving the ADA access to meetings, workshops, and conferences.

Many different ethnic groups are represented in the department’s workforce providing a better understanding of the needs of campus constituencies.  The Custodial Department has built a partnership with the Office of Human Development in Chadron allowing an opportunity to interact with physically and mentally challenged individuals and provide part-time employment for these individuals.

 

HVAC/Boiler Plant

B.  Promote global awareness?

The Colorado State Forest Service, the Nebraska State Forest Service and the South Dakota State Forest Service have visited campus and brought groups of individuals on many occasions to tour the boiler house. Ed Hoffman, former V.P. for Administration, attended several biomass fuel conferences and presented a Power Point presentation on the use of woodchips to heat and cool buildings while employed by Chadron State College.  Attached is a copy of that power point presentation.

 

Ensure regional relevance?

The College burns chipped hog fuel which results from commercial logging operations in the surrounding Pine Ridge.  The College has benefited from a wood fired, central steam heat system operating on campus for the past 15 years.  This proven wood fired system has the additional potential to provide enhanced economic development for fuel supply contractors, reduce institutional energy costs, reduce forest fuel supplies and fire danger, reduce peak demand on CSC’s regional electrical provider, and enhance overall comfort of students, faculty, and staff on the campus.

Print Shop

As a manufacturing facility with a staff of two we contribute to all clubs and departments within the campus community. This is our only avenue for supporting diversity. We are in contact with many students and a large percentage of faculty and staff. Our involvement in many clubs, committees and campus groups gives us the opportunity to serve in other ways than printing. (CSSA, PSA, Diversity Committee, NSCPA, Comedy Club & search committees.)

 

Safety

Safety constantly supports the College mission for diversity in ADA, students, staff, constituents and the region by updating and improving ADA access to all campus buildings.

Our unit provides work experience for students from all over the world, providing an interaction with students and others from a diverse culture they may not normally meet.
