Apartment Maintenance Information
General Maintenance Requests
All breaks, damages, or general repairs should be reported immediately to the Housing Office 432.6355. Requests must be called in Monday through Friday, between 8:00a.m. and 4:00p.m. Maintenance work will not be done on Saturday, Sunday, or legal holidays except for emergencies. Students should call 432.6226 should an emergency arise.
Electrical Wiring
Electrical panels are located in the utility room or closet. The circuit will switch off in the event of a circuit overload. If this occurs, wait a few moments and return to the "ON" position. Call the Maintenance Department or Boiler House if the switch fails to stay in the "ON" position.
Disposals
If the apartment has a disposal, make certain that the maximum ammount of cold water is running through the unit before turning it on and while in operation. Do not put bones, corn cobs, corn shucks, fruit pits, or cooking fats into the disposal. Cleaning chemicals should not be used in the disposal.
Air Conditioners, Evaporative Coolers, Window Fans, and Heating Units
Permission/contracts to install air conditioners must be obtained through the Housing Office. The tenant must have the air conditioner, and the maintenance department will do all installation. Evaporative coolers are not allowed in CSC Apartments. Refrigerant air conditioners may be installed in the Apartments; 220V(volt) air conditioners are not allowed. Contact the Housing Office for more information.
In order for the heating units to function properly, it is imperative that furniture and other objects that tend to obstruct the flow of air be kept away from heating vents and electric baseboard heaters.
Keys and Locks
Each lessee will be issued keys for the apartment and the mailbox. Lessees should report lost keys to the Housing Office immediately. There is a fee of $10 for replacing keys. Occupants should not change the locks already in use or use padlocks.
Plumbing
During the winter months, it is important that occupants do not turn off furnaces or turn the electric heat so low that the plumbing freezes. Sinks, tubs, and stools are to be cleaned regularly using soap and high quality, non-gritty cleansing agents with no acid. Repeated service calls due to negligence may be charged to the tenant. West Court apartments 1-16 should pour water down the floor drain from time to time in order to keep it clean.
Laundry Facilities
Coin operated washing machines and dryers are provided in the laundry facility in the south section of West Court. Apartments #1-16 have washer hook-ups, but are not wired for dryers. Occupants of all other apartments may not use their own washers as adequate space, plumbing, and wiring are not available.
Grounds
No outdoor construction of any type, including fences, is permitted. Occupants shall not store or place personal property on the outside of the dwelling or on the adjacent premises.
A playground area is available in West Court for the children of CSC Apartment residents. Please note that Chadron State College assumes no responsibility for children playing in this area. All toys, bikes, and personal property should be picked up at the end of each day.
Upkeep of the grounds and snow removal is done by the Maintenance Department.
Occupants are responsible for the loss of, or damage to CSC property resulting from unusual use, negligence, or intentional acts. The $100.00 Apartment Reservation/Damage Deposit is held as a protection against said losses or damages. Should the cost exceed the deposit, the occupant will be required to pay the additional charge. Occupants are held responsible for damage to plumbing, heating apparatus, and all other appliances due to misuse or negligence.
