Loft Guidelines
- SIZE:
Lofts must be able to support the student’s weight and should measure no more than 86 inches in length and 40 inches in width. The loft should support only one bed.
- HEIGHT:
A minimum distance of three (3) feet or thirty-six (36) inches should be maintained from the top of the mattress to the ceiling.
- LOCATION:
No loft shall obstruct windows or doors of the room at any time. The windows and doors must be fully operable at all times and must be usable as a means of exit or entry to the room. Electrical outlets, sockets, light fixtures, telephones, and TV jacks may not be adjusted. Decorative coverings, tapestries, lights, fans, etc. may not be suspended from the loft or bunk.
- DAMAGE:
Students are responsible for any damage caused by the loft. Lofts must be able to be removed from the room without damage to any part of the room or its furnishings. Residents of the room are responsible for any damage caused by the construction, installation, use, or removal of a loft. Beds shall not be supported in whole or in part by any college furniture.
- ENCLOSURE:
Lofts shall not be enclosed in any way. Ladders are required so that a student can safely get in and out of a loft. College furniture should not be used as a "step stool", nor as a support for loft construction.
- CONSTRUCTION:
The loft must be assembled in the student’s room. No construction in hallways, lounges, or public areas is allowed. The student is responsible for cleanup required after construction.
- STORAGE:
Lofts must be completely dismantled and removed from the room at the end of the school year. Lofts may be stored in college storage areas during the summer.
Chadron State College will not take responsibility for the student’s safety in regards to the use, construction or dismantling of a loft. Chadron State College reserves the right to direct the residents to remove from their room any hazardous materials including lofts.
Students who wish to build free-standing lofts for their room must submit a “Release of Liability/Hold Harmless Agreement” form available from the Residence Hall Director or Coordinator.
