Master of Arts in Education (MAE)

There are four options within the Master of Arts in Education degree. These options will not certify the student to teach at the elementary or secondary levels in the State of Nebraska.

Clinical Mental Health Counseling - offered in a partially online format. Students can expect to complete two courses on the campus of Chadron State College or at its satellite office in North Platte, Nebraska.

4 Year Course Rotation

The Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program prepares students to work professionally in various public and private counseling agencies. In Nebraska, as well as most states, persons must be licensed by the state to engage in counseling or therapy. A teaching degree is not required for admittance into the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program.

Program Requirements

  • Earned baccalaureate degree from a regionally-accredited institution with a grade point average of 2.75 or better on a 4.00 scale
  • Students will be required to attend an interview with the Counseling Department either on the campus of Chadron State College or via web options, such as Vidyo, during the first semester of attendance. Students successfully passing the interview will be required to attend a face-to-face orientation with the Counseling Department at either the Chadron State College location or the North Platte, Nebraska, satellite office.

History - offered in an online format and a partially online format.

4 Year Course Rotation

This concentration is customized to meet the educational and professional needs of the students who want advanced knowledge in history in order to continue their professional goal of a doctorate degree, career advancement or professional development. This degree will deliver the 18 content hours needed to teach at the community college level in most states.

Program Requirements

  • Earned baccalaureate degree from a regionally-accredited institution with a grade point average of 2.75 or better on a 4.00 scale.

Admissions Requirements

Mathematics - offered in an online format.

  • No GMAT or GRE required for admission to the program
  • Seven year time frame in which to finish program - average time to completion is two to three years for the History, Mathematics and Science options
  • Hours needed to complete the History, Mathematics and Science options = 36 hours
  • Hours needed to complete the Clinical Mental Health Counseling option = 60 hours
  • Program will not satisfy certification standards to teach at the elementary/secondary levels for the State of Nebraska
  • Clinical Mental Health Counseling program is not currently CACREP accredited

Master of Business Administration (MBA)

The MBA is designed for supervisory and mid-level managers. The program will add to the body of knowledge in business management, marketing, finance, accounting, economics and informational management systems. This program is offered entirely or partially online in an eight-week format—two eight-week sessions per semester.

  • Complete the Inbound Peregrine Exam (Pre-Program Assessment)

Quick Facts

  • 36 credit hour program
  • Generalist curriculum (No areas of concentration)
  • Classes offered in eight week formats
  • Nine hours within a sixteen week semester or six hours within an eight week session is considered full-time for the MBA program
  • Online classes for the 2016-2017 academic year = $325.00 per credit hour
  • No GMAT required for admission to the program
  • Seven year time frame in which to finish program - average time to completion is two to three years
  • Accreditation by ACBSP (Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs)

Master of Education (ME)

There are three options within the Master of Education degree. Each option has various areas of specialization. All students accepted into the ME program must have a bachelor’s degree in education from a regionally-accredited college or university or have completed an alternative teaching certification program which included student teaching as documented on a college/university transcript.

Curriculum and Instruction - offered in both fully online and partially online formats. Students in the partially online programs can expect to complete courses on the campus of Chadron State College.

These programs are intended to provide the student with advanced knowledge in curriculum, research, assessment, administration, supervision and counseling.

  • General Education (elementary) - fully online
  • Career and Technical Education (secondary) - fully online
  • Educational Technology (elementary and secondary) - fully online
  • Language Arts (elementary) - partially online
  • Mathematics (elementary and secondary) - fully online
  • Physical Education (elementary and secondary) - fully online
  • Reading Specialist PK-12 - fully online
  • Science (elementary and secondary) - partially online
  • Social Science (elementary and secondary) - fully online
  • Special Education K-12 - fully online
  • Business Education (secondary) - fully online

Educational Administration - offered in an online format.

These programs require that the student hold a teaching certificate, or be qualified to hold a teaching certificate. The programs are intended to provide the student with advanced knowledge in curriculum, research, assessment, administration, supervision and counseling. It is the responsibility of students from states other than Nebraska to check with their resident state on specific state-required courses needed to obtain their state's administrative endorsement/certificate and to choose their elective courses to meet these state requirements.

  • In lieu of the baccalaureate degree in education, student must have completed an alternative teaching certification program which included student teaching as documented on a college/university transcript

School Counseling - offered in a partially online format. Students can expect to complete two courses on the campus of Chadron State College or its satellite office in North Platte, Nebraska.

This degree prepares students for careers as school counselors in public and private elementary, middle school and secondary settings.

  • School Counseling program is not CACREP accredited
  • Those who already possess an ME or the Chadron State College equivalent of an ME should apply using the Post Graduate Degree application as they will be adding an endorsement rather than receiving an additional degree

Master of Science in Organizational Management (MSOM)

A cooperative program between Chadron State College, Wayne State College and Peru State College within the Nebraska State College System, this degree is designed to provide knowledge and skills in management and organizational structures to enable the student to more effectively progress to management positions with corporate, government or not-for-profit settings. There are three areas of option offered within this program:

Human Services - offered in an online format.

Natural Resources - offered in a partially online format. Students can expect to complete some courses on the campus of Chadron State College.

Sports Management - offered in an online format.

4 Year Course Rotations

Natural Resources also include Biology and Agriculture.

Sports Management also includes HPER.

  • The MSOM - Human Services option is not an advanced degree for those in the areas of social work, counseling or other jobs in the helping professions.
  • The MSOM - Sports Management option will not certify students to teach/coach in the elementary/secondary school systems.
