Chadron State students will tell you if asked, campus-life is their life. Students from many different states develop ties and relationships with professors, coaches and each other that are strengthened by Chadron State’s location in the panhandle of Nebraska. This dynamic, combined with aging, deteriorating and inadequate facilities related to major social and sports events at Chadron State, has lead the Nebraska Coordinating Commission for Postsecondary Education (NCCPE) to approve the construction of an Events Center.
Because of Chadron State’s location, the camaraderie of teammates, the spectacle of sport, and on-campus social-entertainment events assume greater importance for students and the community. The plan approved by the NCCPE calls for the current 23,000 square foot Ross Armstrong Physical Education Building to be renovated and a 94,000 square foot addition to be added to create the Events Center. The Events Center will serve as a “keystone facility” allowing many constituencies to utilize the center.
This project has been approved by the Board of Trustees of the Nebraska State Colleges and the Coordinating Commission for Postsecondary Education. This approval requires that Chadron State secure $2 million in private gifts to supplement the state funding request of $11 million for the $13 million project. Construction will move forward once private gifts and state funding is secured.
