Prior Learning Credit

Prior Learning Credit (PLC) allows students who are 25 years old or older to receive consideration for credit for college-level knowledge they have acquired through life experience as elaborated below.

• Students must complete the one-credit COLG131 Portfolio Development course, taught online. During the 8-week course, students will learn how to build a portfolio that documents college-level knowledge normally acquired through a specific CSC course.
• Following successful completion of COLG 131, students have one year to develop and submit one or more portfolios for credit evaluation.
• Students may document knowledge from work or military experience and related training, intensive reading, or other activities where college-level learning might have occurred.
• The college-level learning that a student has acquired must be related to a specific course that Chadron State College (CSC) already teaches. For example
  • Suppose a person has had extensive training and experience in driving a tank, while in the Army. While we value very much the skills this person has, CSC does not offer a course in tank driving, so it would not be possible to apply for credit for this experience.
  • A student began working as a golf caddy in high school and went on to manage a golf course. She took lessons from the golf pro and saved her scorecards. She has several videos that portray her progress over the years, as well as her knowledge of rules, current skills, mastery of golf etiquette, choice of clubs, and so on. This would be an appropriate instance where the student might want to prepare a portfolio for HPER 103, Golf, an existing course at CSC.
